15 Year Old Jared Richards of Swampscot May Face Charges for Possession of Explosive Device
Mixing explosive chemicals found around the house in a soda bottle to watch them explode was not the best idea that 15 year old Jared Richards of Swampscot, MA ever had but to be charged for it by the state? I really think that is too much.
Jared Richards and some of his friends had found directions on the internet for making a homemade explosive. To most 15 year old boys, that would sound cool. What wasn’t cool was when the soda bottle they used to hold the materials exploded in the face of Jared Richards.
Both corneas and the entire face of Jared Richards were burned in the incident. When he described the accident he said that once the device exploded all he saw was white and he thought he had died. Now honestly, you’re going to tell me that a 15 year old kid who did something stupid and thought he had died because of it hasn’t already learned his lesson? I for one do not agree that any criminal charges should be brought up on this kid.
For his curiosity and stupidity, Jared Richards is already doing time. He is laying on his couch with painful burns on his face and he is dealing with temporary vision loss. Just think of all the negative attention that this incident is bringing to the family of Jared Richards. Also think of how stupid this kid must feel when he has to explain that his injuries were due to him trying to build a bomb. A bomb! For no reason other than watching it go boom.
The act of making homemade explosions is more common than people with actual things to do with their time might expect. I typed homemade explosion in the search field of youtube and came up with 269 results. So not only are people doing this, they are filming it and posting it for all to see.
I, personally, don’t get the allure of watching things blow up…but I’m not a 15 year old boy.

The earlier the lad is taught to know the dangers of experimenting with explosives, the better and safer we would all be.
But there should be laws to address the posting of such dangerous materials online. And the web hosts of such misleading websites should be warned.
God bless.
