ATHENS (Reuters) - Their character questioned and commitment belittled, the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team responded to their critics by taking the bronze with a gold medal effort.

While it will take the American public some time to digest the fact that for the first time since 1992 the U.S. will not return home with Olympic gold, coach Larry Brown had nothing but praise for his team following a gritty 104-96 win over Lithuania in Saturday night’s bronze medal game. Both under the hood and above it, the Apple iPod from HP looks just like the Apple iPod from Apple. It has the same Click Wheel, backlit black and white LCD screen and chrome and white case design. So what’s the big deal? It’s all in the distribution and the potential market.

HP has much broader retail reach than Apple does. You’ll soon find Apple iPods from HP on the store shelves of Circuit City, CompUSA, Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Radio Shack, Fry’s Electronics, Amazon.com and Costco. Some of these are brand new venues for Apple. And this isn’t just limited to the United States, either: HP’s global reach is fantastic. Read more

Check out this photo taken by satelite over the 2004 Olympics in Athens Greece. Very cool.

Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek dropped his appeal today of a four-game suspension for his part in a bench clearing brawl with the New York Yankees last month. Hell I don;t blame the guy for protecting his team mates. Would be nice if the Sox pitching staff would show the same emotion.

Yup still unemployed and I guess as far as a job working for someone else. I decided about a month ago that I’m fucking tired of working for people and getting laid off or fired because he their plans change or I’m too expensive for them (yea that was a good excuse) or just plainly I hated a place. Jake’s Birthday

Jake’s Birthday is this Monday. He’ll be 2 years old. He’s so tall for his age. The doctor says he’s in the 100 percentile for his age. Meaning he’s bigger than 100% of the kids his age. Odd way of putting it, huh?
My friends Jim keeps asking me to go mountain bike riding with him during the day. He takes an hour and goes at lunchtime to Billerica State Forest or Great Brook State Farm. I’ve riden both trails and they’re pretty good for being local places. Only thing is I’m so out of shape it’s tough just to get back on and go. Plus your ass hurts for hours afterward if you ride as hard as we do!!

Larry Bird has a ghetto pass

Sports News Article | Reuters.com: “Hall of Famer Larry Bird says the NBA needs more white stars if it is to continue to appeal to its fan base.
In an interview with ESPN to be aired Thursday ahead of the Game Three of the NBA finals, the former Boston Celtic, widely considered one of the greatest players ever to hit the hardwood, was asked if the league lacked white superstars.
‘Well, I think so,’ Bird said. ‘You know when I played you had me and Kevin (McHale) and some others throughout the league.
‘I think it’s good for a fan base because, as we all know, the majority of the fans are white America. And if you just had a couple of white guys in there, you might get them a little excited.
‘But it is a black man’s game and it will be forever. I mean the greatest athletes in the world are African-American.’
Bird, now the Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations, made the comments during a round-table discussion that included Magic Johnson and NBA rookies LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.
Former Los Angeles Lakers great Johnson said: ‘We need some more Larry Birds. I mean, you know, you want that. Larry Bird, you see, can go into any neighborhood.”
