Reinstalling Windows XP

If you have been running Windows XP for a couple of years or more you may find that it is not running quite as quickly and smoothly as it was when you did your first install. I am constantly ‘evaluating’ software and uninstalling and reinstalling beta software on my computer and have always gradually become more and more disappointed after nine months to a year with the performance of my PC. So I regularly do a backup and reinstall all my software, including Windows.
Please note that this is completely different than doing the standard things to troubleshoot and fix individual problems such as system errors or application errors. These things are better fixed by using a systme Restore which is a great new feature to Windows XP
For anyone that has reinstalled their operating system a few times the process seems pretty straightforward as they have found all of the gotchas the first few times. I have lost mail and contacts but not much else over the years by following (or not following) a system to reload my operating system and software. This purpose of this guide is to give you a checklist to follow so that a reloading of Windows goes smoothly the first time.
The steps are as follows:
1. Backup all data
2. Document your current system drivers and software
3. Delete the Windows and profile directories
4. Reload Window
5. Reload software and data.
6. Get some sleep

Few people can resist the lure of free stuff. Especially celebrities. Jessica Alba, Nick Cannon, Lil Jon, Shaquille O’Neal, John Singleton, Christina Milian and numerous other stars made their way to The Sagamore Hotel from Friday to Sunday to visit The Style Villa, where they could scoop up a variety of swag: lingerie, satellite radios, jeans, video-ready cell phones, free haircuts, even monogrammed boots.
When asked what he liked most about the Style Villa, Jadakiss replied: “Everything. I ain’t gonna lie.”
The gravel-voiced gangsta rapper sat to have anti-wrinkle cream slathered on his hands and carried a $200 Bratz backpack complete with doll, MP3 player and videogame for his children.
“This is what I love most about these events the giveaways,” said Jadakiss, who named his Sidekick mobile device as the most prized gift of the day. “They give away everything.”
Well, not quite everything.
At the Alpha Omega Jewelers suite, stars could admire luxury watches priced from $2,000 to $50,000 which were for borrowing only.

Ashlee Simpson to Perform on Oprah
Friday August 26 6:50 AM ET
Ashlee Simpson, who was busted for a “Saturday Night Live” lip-synch gone awry, will perform on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” this fall, says her manager-father, Joe Simpson.
Earlier in the week, Simpson had confirmed reports that Ashlee was in negotiations for a return to NBC’s “SNL,” where she was caught using background vocals last October.
The 20-year-old singer’s mishap was attributed to acid reflux disease.
“We are going to push `SNL’ back because we are doing `The Oprah Winfrey Show’ for one hour,” Simpson told “Access Hollywood” on Wednesday. “(`Oprah’) is going to be the first interview and the first place where Ashlee sings.”
Ashlee’s new album, “I Am Me,” is set for release Oct. 18.
“We are working on the date” to appear on “Oprah,” her manager-father said, “but it’s going to be right before the release of the record. It’s in the second or first week of October.”

Tip #1. Do a Google search. Don’t be to general in your search, type in exactly what your looking for. Try putting the words you type in quotes to narrow the search.
Tip #2. Go shopping at the office supplies and discount clubs. You may find some discount clubs like Costco & Sams have a 6 month return policy, check your location. California stores have a 6 month no questions asked policy, and yes, this means Computers and Software too, even if the package is open and you have used it. Just make sure you can put it back in the box and you have the receipt.
Tip #3. Don’t forget to check eBay for computer accessories.
Tip #4. Try other stores like Fry’s, Best Buy, Circuit City, Dell, Gateway, CompUSA.
Tip #5. If your looking for used try craigslist.org, eBay.com, http://auctions.yahoo.com
Tip #6. Compare prices at pricescan.com, pricewatch.com, pricegrabber.com, price.com, epinions.com, shopper.cnet.com, streetprices.com & bizrate.com
Tip #7. Check the Sunday newspaper.
Tip #8. Staples, Office Max and Office Depot have price matching. So If one of them has a sales you can take the sale ad to any one of them and they will honor it. Helpful if the store having the sale is not to close to you.
Hope this helps, good luck and thanks for reading.

I wanted to make public my new website BattleDiabetes.com
Since I am a type 2 diabetic I wanted to put together a website of articles that would help other diabetics battle this disease and also learn more about diabetes myself.
Here’s an excerpt from the new website:
“Your doctor may have recently advised you have diabetes. Or you are overweight and you have discovered you may be at risk of diabetes. Others may have a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with the disease. Just what does diabetes mean and how does it affect your lifestyle?
Diabetes means that your blood glucose (often called blood sugar) is too high. Your blood always has some glucose in it because your body needs glucose for energy to keep you going. But too much glucose in the blood isn’t good for your health.
How do you get high blood glucose?”
Howard Stern got Hacked!

Howard Stern’s radio satelite was hit with a virus this morning causing the show to switch to ESPN radio for a few seconds and then to some spanish radio show for a few minutes. In the middle of Howard Stern interviewing Willie Nelson producer Gary dell’abate came in and told Stern that they lost their satelite feed for a few minutes and things are back to normal.
Could a virus do all this?
A new Windows worm has been hitting unpatched Windows 2000 computers en masse - and causing blushes at several media organisations along the way. The basic effect is not damaging, but irritating: it forces the computer to repeatedly shut down and reboot.
Associated Press - which was itself struck by the worm - is saying the following:
“A computer worm unleashed over the weekend infected more computers on Tuesday running Microsoft operating systems, with Windows 2000 users most seriously affected. The Zotob worm and several variations of it, known as Rbot.cbq, SDBot.bzh and Zotob.d, infected computers at companies such as CNN, The Associated Press [and] The New York Times.”
CNN announced live on air that its systems had succumbed to the worm.
“The prime distinguisher of this outbreak is that some of the world’s most trusted media has been hit,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos. “In the case of CNN, millions of viewers were able to witness the damaging affects of the worm live on air.”

Cindy Sheehan’s Camp Casey in Crawford Texas
August 12, 2005 by Ken Savage
Casey joined the Army in 2000, never imagining he would see combat. Five days after he arrived in Iraq last year, the 24-year-old was killed in Sadr City.
Sheehan knows nothing can bring back her son, but she wants to talk to President Bush. The Vacaville, Calif., mother has been camping out along a road near his ranch since Saturday, vowing to remain until his Texas vacation ends later this month.
“Before my son was killed, I used to think that one person could not make a difference,” she said Wednesday under a tent where she has slept since arriving. “But one person that is surrounded and supported by millions of people can be heard.”
Speaking with reporters at his ranch Thursday, Bush expressed sympathy for Sheehan.
“She feels strongly about her position. And she has every right in the world to say what she believes,” Bush said.
“And I thought long and hard about her position,” he said. “I’ve heard her position from others, which is: Get out of Iraq now. And it would be a mistake for the security of this country and the ability to lay the foundations for peace in the long run if we were to do so.”

Watch the Perseid Meteor Showers this August 12th
August 10, 2005 by Ken Savage
If, around August 12th, you go outside between midnight and dawn and look up for a minute or so, you’ll most likely spot a meteor streaking through the sky. The August Perseid meteors were the first that astronomers associated with a particular comet. In the mid 1860s, Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli observed that Perseids followed the appearance of the Swift-Tuttle Comet.
The Perseids are among the most reliable of the year’s cosmic fireworks displays. In mid-August, Earth passes through a stream of grit left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle in its eccentric 130-year orbit. Flecks of debris burn up as they pass through the atmosphere, at a height of about 60 miles, producing streaks of light — and sometimes leaving behind glowing trails that fade into the night.
The Perseids are so called because the point they appear to come from, called the radiant, lies in the constellation Perseus. Meteor showers occur when Earth moves through a meteor stream. The stream in this case is called the Perseid cloud and it stretches along the orbit of the Comet Swift-Tuttle. The cloud consists of particles ejected by the comet as it passed by the Sun.
Most of the dust in the cloud today is approximately a thousand years old. However, there is also a relatively young filament of dust in the stream that boiled off the comet in 1862. The approximate rate of meteors originating from this filament is much higher than normal.
![]()
- Watch for Perseid meteors in the night skies from July 23rd to August 22nd.
- Get away from artificial light if possible.
- Dress appropriately for nighttime viewing. As a summer event, Perseids may be one of the few meteor showers you can observe in shirtsleeves.
- Look toward constellation Perseus for the radiant point of Perseid meteors. They’ll seem to come from that area, which is about halfway above the horizon in the northeast quadrant of the sky.
- Begin your search for Perseids after 10 p.m. (although the best viewing comes from midnight until dawn).
- Recline with your feet facing due south and look straight up. Perseids should appear to come from over your left shoulder.
The Perseid meteor shower peaks on the new-Moon night of Sunday–Monday, August 12–August 13 and can be seen from any place in the northern hemisphere. The Perseid meteors appear to stream away from their radiant near the border of Perseus and Cassiopeia.
The meteor rate, for an observer at a dark-sky site in the northern temperate latitudes, increases to roughly 30 per hour in the pre-dawn hours on Saturday, 45 per hour on Sunday morning, and 80 per hour before the sky starts to get light on Monday morning.

New York Yankees Fan Visits Fenway Park
August 7, 2005 by Ken Savage
Filed under Boston, Red Sox, Sports
After making my first trip to Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, and after experiencing the Boston perspective for a few days, I have made many observations about not only the Boston Red Sox , but also about the Yankees. Despite not seeing a single Yankee game on this trip, I have a new outlook on the Yankees this season. Just a warning, it isn’t an optimistic one, however I think I need to share it nonetheless.
First, I wanted to share my thoughts about Fenway Park. Fenway is a beautiful park, of course some of this beauty is destroyed by the sea of red throughout the crowd, but nonetheless it is a gorgeous ballpark. After being to many games in Yankee Stadium, watching a game at Fenway provides a nice sense of old-fashioned, natural, and traditional baseball in a small, cozy environment, almost like a minor league ballpark.
Fenway has not changed all that much from when it was first built, that’s changing recently though with the seats on top of the Green Monster and the future seats for rooftop buildings, but the overall appearance of Fenway has stayed the same from when it was first created. It creates a homely feeling that everyone in the park is there together, to root for the BoSox. Of course, it isn’t the case for those that aren’t BoSox fans and it was a horrible feeling to hear all of the cheers for the Sox, but it was a pleasant experience nonetheless.
Enough talk about Boston though, now let’s talk about the Yankees. The Yankees are very barely just slipping by. The starting rotation includes about ten different pitchers, and while analysts say they’re fine because they’re getting by, the good times are bound to end. Just as they did with Al Leiter. Leiter has not posted a quality start since his first start in Pinstripes this year. Chacon is off to two good starts, but when will his success end? It’s bound to happen soon
The Orioles are out of the picture in the AL East, but the Red Sox are certainly a proven contender. I was at Tuesday’s game at Fenway, and the Kansas City Royals were off to a good start. They scored three runs off Wakefield in the first, and increased their lead to four to nothing in the third. However, the Red Sox battled back with a Manny Ramirez three-run homerun in the fourth to make it a 4-3 game. The Royals looked good, looking to get the W until the seventh inning. With Boston having runners on first and second, on a routine base hit to right field, the right fielder trips and the ball rolls all the way to the wall. The Red Sox score three runs and win 8-6.
The point of telling that, is that the Red Sox are finding ways to win. And while you might say the Yankees are also finding ways to win, the Red Sox are doing it consistently, with a solid lineup every day and a pitching staff that has dealt with injuries ten times better than the Yanks. Schilling picked up his sixth save of the season on Tuesday. The Yankees are in turmoil compared to the Red Sox, and the Red Sox have a very solid team. At this point in the season, I’m almost giving them the AL East, and it’s time for the Yankees to start competing for the Wild Card.
But the Wild Card is a whole different story. Five or six teams are very close to each other within three or four games of each other. Those teams include the red hot Athletics, Indians, Blue Jays, Indians, and the Yankees. The Wild Card won’t be a piece of cake for the Yankees, especially if their good fortunes of late end. It will be an interesting remainder of the season, that’s for sure.
