I just went to see the movie 300 last night. I am a huge fan of that movie. If you are looking for a movie that will make you cry, laugh and appreciate life… This is not the movie for you. However, if you are looking for a movie that will make your adrenaline pump, your heart speed up and some times make you wince… Look no further. 300 is for you.

King Leonidas, played by Gerald Butler, has to defend Sparta against the invasion of the entire Persian Empire. He assembles 300 of his mightiest warriors and marches them to a bottle necked canyon on the coast. The 300 Spartan take on thousands and thousands of Persian warriors.

Xeres, played by Rodrigo Santoro, is the King of the Persian Empire and is trying to take over the world. This guy looks like a total freak show! Bald head, has to be about 8 feet in the movie with painted on eyebrows and pierced cheeks. It really gave me a weird feeling when they first showed him. He truly is a villain that you want to see taken down.

What I thought came across so loudly in the film is that these 300 warriors from Spartan and their King were not afraid to die for their kingdom. They had been raised to do battle and thought of dying by a worthy opponent as an honor. They would do anything it took to keep Sparta free from Persia ruling it.

Visually 300 was truly a masterpiece. I was expecting to go in there and have the same effect as Sin City but I was wrong. Although 300 was heavily stylized it was not as severe as Sin City. To try and explain the look into words really doesn’t do it justice.

One truly amazing effect was the way animals that we have seen a thousand times such as rhinos and elephants are made to look like terrifying monsters. The film was narrated by Theron, played by Dominic West, who is a spartan himself. He never refers to the animals by their names at all but only has terrifying monsters hauled back from the darkest reaches of Earth. That is exactly the look given to these animals. We were able to see them and everything else through the eyes of Spartans.
