Catholic League’s Bill Donahue Speaks Out
So as I had written in an earlier blog entry, the movie Hounddog contains a rape scene in which 12 year old Dakota Fanning plays the victim. The key word in the last sentence is “plays”. Meaning this was not real, she was acting.
Why then is the President of the Catholic League Bill Donahue asking Andrew Oosterbaan, Chief of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity section within the U.S Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, to investigate whether or not any federal child pornography statutes were broken during the filming of this movie.
It seems to me, and again this is only my opinion, that because the Catholic Church takes so much heat for all of the child molestation charges brought against it that Bill Donahue now wants the same heat to be put on Hollywood.
The problem with his argument is that he is talking about apples and oranges. He does not deny that children have been molested by Catholic priests and that the Catholic Church then tried to cover that up but he is now trying to compare that to the making of this movie.
Am I wrong in thinking that this is craziness? Yes, the thought of seeing a 12 year old being violently raped on screen seems like it would be a very upsetting and disturbing thing to witness. But we do have to realize that this was on a movie set, she was not really raped, she is not nude in any part of this movie. End of story.
Shocking…yes as it should be. Child Pornography… not in my eyes.
