Irish Family The Black Donnellys Television Show

The Black Donnellys is a new series airing on Monday night TV at 10pm on NBC. The first hour long episode aired on February 26th and has gotten some really great reactions.

The Black Donnellys follows the lives of four young, working class, Irish brothers. These brothers will do anything it takes to protect each other when lives are at risk due to their involvement in New York City organized crime. Hostility is huge towards them due to other New York Families wanting the brother’s territory. Although this show takes place in present day there really is a lot of Irish-American history and iconic themes. The show clearly shows that there is major tension and clear cut rivalry between the Italians and the Irish.

So who are these brothers? First off there is Jimmy Donnelly, played by Tom Guiry, the oldest of the Donnelly brothers who is known for making horrible decisions that are poorly thought out. He uses drugs, causes tons of trouble and is always involved in some sort of shady criminal activity. Black Donnellys TV show

Next there is Tommy Donnelly, played by Jonathan Tucker, who is the second oldest of the brothers. Tommy had made a pretty big mistake when he was younger but had seemed to straighten up with going to school for Art. He easily could have stayed out of trouble but that would have meant leaving his brothers behind which he was not willing to do.

Then comes Kevin Donnelly, played by Billy Lush, who is the second youngest of the brothers. He is known as the gambler of the family. He is constantly needing help from his brothers to get out of trouble associated with his huge debts and loans.

Finally there is Sean Donnelly, played by Michael Stahl-David. What is this brother known for? Being a ladies man although he doesn’t even look old enough to drive.

What I find most interesting about this show is that one of the writers, Paul Haggis, has used a lot of history from the real Black Donnelly’s who lived in his home town of London, Ontario. This family was involved in the famous Biddulph Township feud.

Go Irish!

Cancelling this show was probably the biggest mistake in TV history.

All I can say is that The Black Donnelly’s was unreal and I’m so upset they took it off the air. It was one of the only good shows that didn’t deal with lawyers, solving crimes or the sex lives of doctors… I mean it was a one of a kind show for what’s on right now! And not only did the cancel it… but they didn’t even finish of the last 6 or 7 episodes. They could have at least done that. I was really excited to see the next episode after seeing the preview… but no luck! I think NBC has to bring this show back… or at least finish the season.

No truer statement was ever written so it deserves to be said again….Cancelling this show was probably the biggest mistake in TV history.
