Interview: Laurel Wolff of Jaded

Laurel Wolff of Boston’s all female rock band JADED

3LDP: Laurel, you are seasoned musician, you play bass and you sing. What or who was your inspiration for playing music in general?
Laurel Wolff: Thank you :) Music has always been around me. My father is a classically trained pianist and I remember listening to him practice all the time growing up. Music was always on in the house and I was picking up different instruments waiting for one to stick-which was the bass. What really got me to take my bass playing further was seeing and hearing White Zombie’s bassist (Sean Yseult) play. I saw her and thought to myself, now thats what I want to do! As far as the singing, I wanted to form an all-girl band when I was 14 or so and we couldn’t find a singer, so I decided to take the job (as well as playing bass) and I’m glad I did, I’ve been singing ever since.

Photos of Laurel Wolff of Jaded

3LDP: JADED has had a few different lineups since it’s forming. Do you think this lineup is the most solidified since your joining and what is the relationship you ladies have with JADED?
Laurel Wolff: I think that we have THE lineup for the band now! We took our time looking for the right girl after Marina left and we definitely have found her! We are all very close, like sisters in a way. I feel very lucky to be working with such talented and smart chix!

3LDP: JADED has toured throughout the US and Europe. Any particular show you remember or that stands out the most?
Laurel Wolff: Oh man, there’s quite a few! Playing the London Astoria was one of my favorites though! The energy was electric! We also had a total Spinal Tap moment trying to find the stage!

3LDP: Your New single “Higher”, who produced it, where was it produced/mixed/mastered and how did the process of writing the single happen?
Laurel Wolff: The whole EP was produced and mixed by Richard Marr, Sammy Miami and JADED at Galaxy Park Studios in Allston MA and it was mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering. “Higher” had been a song in the works for a year or two actually, with many different versions. The version we have now is completely different than all the others, but has the same concept lyrically. The song came about at practice, just riffing around and then coming in with new parts/ideas, piecing it together.

Music: Jaded

3LDP: The New CD, has the writing process been a new experience with current singer Katy Reign?
Laurel Wolff: Yes, definitely! Katy comes up with really cool melodies and she just gels with us. I feel like we have matured a lot together!

3LDP: I have personally seen JADED live at shows and I must say, you ladies can ROCK and the stage presence is very theatrical and tight. Use one word that would best describe you band mates on stage.
Wow, thanx! …man, I’m not good at these types of questions haha but here ya go-
Britt Lightning: Flashy
Katy Reign: Strong
Hillary Blaze: On fire
Laurel Wolff: Aggressive

3LDP: Name a few artists that you have shared the stage with. Also name your influences.
Laurel Wolff: Alice in Chains, Halestorm, Doro Pesch, WASP, Twisted Sister, Buckcherry, Kittie, Disturbed. A few of my influences are Type O Negative, White Zombie, Iron Maiden, Drain STH.

3LDP: What are some of your goals as a band moving forward into the future?
Laurel Wolff: To spread our music around the world!

3LDP: How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with samples?
Laurel Wolff: You can find us and hear us on: www.reverbnation.com/jadedrockers, www.facebook.com/jadedrock or our website (which is under construction at the moment) www.jadedrockers.com. You can also go to www.suicide-dream.com to hear my other project (Suicide Dream).

3LDP: What equipment do you use? Endorsers?
Laurel Wolff: I play an Ibanez SRX300 bass with Dunlop strings/picks. I’m also working with Carlino Guitars on a custom bass which I’m very excited about! I play through an Ampeg PR410H cab with a Hartke 2500 head.

3LDP: Thank you so much for your time, it has been a pleasure as usual. See you at the next show! Is there anything else you would like share with all the JADED fans?
Laurel Wolff: Anytime and thank you! To all the fans-you guys are amazing and keep checking the sites for more to come.

An Interview with Singer Songwriter Lauren Chouinard

Lauren Chouinard, 19, attends Chapman University majoring in public relations and minoring in vocal performance.

What was your first experience that comes to mind with music? I actually didn’t start off with music right away, I used to be a dancer when I was younger. But this one day, I wasn’t doing something right in class, and my ballet teacher lashed out at me and told me that I’d “never be a ballerina”. I was SO crushed. So my mother, in an attempt to make me feel good about myself, had me try a variety of different sports and activities. One of those activities was choir. It was the only thing that really made me feel good about myself, and then I started just singing all the time. And I never stopped =)

Thinking back, did your family carry on the same musical/artistic interests? My family always jokes around that they don’t know where my musical talent came from haha. My brother and I both just randomly took up music (he’s a drummer) because it’s something that we love that fulfills us.

What has been your inspiration for writing songs? Life experience. It’s hard to write about stuff that you don’t really know, or that you haven’t really lived. But I can definitely say I’ve been through a lot in my life, and it’s reflected in my writing for sure. There’s some songs that are so personal that I don’t necessarily show them to the public, but that’s okay. There’s other things that I share with others because I know that there’s other girls out there that can relate to my message.

Do you have any goals you may want to reach with your music? Well right now, my immediate goal is to actually come out with a full album. I have a few singles here and there, but I definitely want more of a variety in the type of music I make. I want to start writing more with piano, or maybe even more obscure instruments like banjo and sitar. I just want to constantly be growing as a musician and as a person in general.

How would you describe your music/art/entertainment for the public audience if they have never seen you before? It’s… nice. haha. That’s the best way I can describe myself, and my voice, and my lyrics. That they are just nice. My voice is definitely reflective of my personality, it’s very sweet and soothing, I like to make everything very pleasant to listen to, like it’s a lullaby. I like for people to experience my music as something that they can listen to when they are just chilling out. When I’m up on stage, what you see is the real me. I talk to my audience like they are my best friends, I’m very casual. But at the same time, I make myself very vulnerable on stage, I bear my soul up there, and it’s a real release for me.

You can purchase her songs here

Does anyone in particular influence your artistic/musical talent? When I was younger, I definitely took a lot of inspiration from Jewel. She’s an incredible songwriter. Nowadays, I’d say that boys are my biggest influence hahaha. Some directly, some indirectly. A lot of what I write is based on my good/bad/ugly experiences with men. But I wouldn’t have it any other way, they make for a good writing subject. Right now I’m working on a song for my boyfriend, Brandon, that I’m also hoping to release on my album. He’s definitely been a big inspiration in my life and in my music in general.

If you could perform with anyone in the world, either dead or alive who would it be? Why? (Name up to three) Joshua Radin, Oren Lavie, and Jason Mraz. They are my favorite male artists, and I would be so blessed to be able to harmonize with any of those gorgeous voices.

What do you attribute to your “drive as an artist”? I am driven not by the idea of fame or fortune, but rather by the idea that music just brings people closer together. I like that I can have a real connection with my audience, whether the crowd is 1,000 people, or just 5. I can’t help but smile when I hear someone walking past me on campus, listening to their ipod, singing the words to one of my songs. It’s not because I’m glad I’ve gained popularity in my area so much as it is that I’m glad that people appreciate the messages I’m trying to convey.

Are there any other “behind the scene” secrets, tips, or additional information you would like to share with our readers? Haha well when it comes to writing songs, I get EXTREME writers block. I’ll only write when I’m really inspired. And I have to finish the project then and there, because there will come a time when I want to come back to it and write more… and I just can’t. Because I lost the spark. So that’s why I get really excited when I write A song. Just one. Because it means I actually sat down in one sitting and wrote what was on my heart at that time.

Taylor Swift Beats Britney Spears Download Record

Taylor Swift has shattered Britney Spears’ first-week download record after fans raced to get hold of her new single Today Was A Fairytale.

The country music sensation now holds the record for the best download debut by a female artist after the new song was picked up 325,000 times in the past week — 39,000 more than Spears’ Womanizer in 2008.

Billboard chart compilers at Nielsen SoundScan have confirmed the tune from the singer’s new film Valentine’s Day will be Swift’s first number one on the Digital Songs countdown; it will also debut at two on the Billboard Hot 100. Both charts will officially be released on Thursday.

Ke$ha’s TiK ToK is the only song that stands in the way of a Swift number one debut. The dance track will claim a sixth successive week at the top.

The record for the biggest opening week belongs to the Black Eyed Peas, who debuted Boom Boom Pow in April 2009 with 465,000 downloads.

The track went on to spend 12 weeks at the top of the U.S. pop charts.
It has also been a good week for downloaded tracks performed at George Clooney’s Hope For Haiti Now telethon on Friday night — Billboard.com reports 334,000 downloads have been registered in less than two days of availability.

Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge and Rihanna’s Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour) was the event’s biggest hit with 131,000, while Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris’ cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah comes in second.

Michael Jackson Autopsy Photos?

michael-jackson-autopsy-pictureA high-resolution picture of Michael Jackson’s body, apparently taken during his autopsy, has been offered to TV executives.

Two of those who saw it described it to me independently, one of them saying it was “shocking.” It is of Jackson, his eyes wide open, lying on his back on a metal autopsy table. The picture is of Jackson’s head only, and taken from the corpse’s left side, from someone who was standing, and at about a 30-degree angle toward the body.

The front of the pop star’s skull is shaved. His ashen face is stripped of any makeup. The lips are flat and wide, but without lipstick. A scar, which he had hidden under makeup whenever he went out, is visible on his left check. His tattooed eyebrows are the only other visible mark on his face.

One executive who saw it, although not a professional photographer, told The Daily Beast that he was certain it was “not a cellphone picture. The quality was far too good.”

Whitney Houston Wants A Divorce

whitney-houston-crackAfter a crazy 14-year marriage marked by drug arrests and stints in rehab, Whitney Houston is divorcing Bobby Brown.
The pop singer filed divorce papers in Orange County Superior Court this week, a month after filing for legal separation from Bobby Brown, Houston’s publicist Nancy Seltzer said Tuesday.

The documents could not be obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press and Brown’s attorney Phaedra Parks declined to comment.

Whitney Houston, 43, had asked in her separation papers that she be granted custody of the couple’s 13-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina, and that Bobby Brown, 37, be allowed visitation rights.

The couple wed in 1992, with Houston at the height of her fame as a Grammy-winning superstar known for such hits as “I Will Always Love You.”

Brown won acclaim for his gritty R&B songs as a one-time member of the boy band New Edition.

During their marriage, Brown was arrested for drugs and alcohol and Houston entered drug rehabilitation programs twice.

In an attempt to clean up her public image, Houston stepped out last month for an event in Beverly Hills with cousin
Dionne Warwick and mogul Clive Davis, with whom she is working on a new album.

Brown, who also has two teenage children with a Massachusetts woman, recently paid up to $11,000 in delinquent child support after being threatened with arrest two weeks ago if he stepped back into the state.

Brown’s attorney has said he was having a “very difficult” time due to the separation initiated by Houston.

Will Kid Rock Make a Couple’s Dreams Come True

kid-rock-pam-andersonI received this in an email. Someone is looking for help proposing to their wife at an actual Kid Rock concert in Vail Colorado. Maybe someone from his management company will see this and give David and Suzanne the opportunity to make their Kid Rock dreams come true.

What do you guys say? Should we spread the word and help this soon-to-be couple out? Take a look at the email and let me know what you think.

I know KID ROCK gets many letters and communications from fans and media but, this is a VERY POSITIVE note that you NEED to read IMMEDIATELY, PLEASE!! My name is David Gonzalez. I am 53 years old and I live in Denver, COLORADO.
I am a successful Real Estate Investor. I have been happily divorced since 1995 and have 3 teenagers. My kids made a my space for me because they thought it would be cool for me to have and meet people as well as keep up with them.
Since they created it for me I complied. Last October I stumbled upon a woman who I knew beyond a doubt was the woman of my dreams…the one I knew I had prayed for and been searching for. I invited her to be my friend and the more we emailed on my space the more I knew I wanted to know her. We have since met, are happier than any two people could be and feel truly blessed that there was a my space where we could connect. Her name is Suzanne and she has moved to Denver with her son and we are going to be married next year. Now here is where I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suzanne totally loves KID ROCK. A lot of her adoration comes from the fact Kid Rock is the spitting image of her late husband who died in 1991 from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 34. Suzanne has been to tons of KID ROCK’S concerts and would give her back teeth to meet him. Her my space has KID ROCK plastered all over it and she is proud of the fact that she was on the front row, on the floor at the last concert KID ROCK did in Portland, OREGON and that KID ROCK shook her hand at the end of the concert when the band go along the front and shake hands with some of the fans…the point of all of this is this. KID ROCK IS performing in Vail, COLORADO on April 14. It looks like a one time concert deal and my future fiancée is wetting her pants because he is playing here. We of course are planning on attending but HERE is where I NEED your help… I want to PROPOSE to Suzanne at the concert in front of everyone. I love this women so much and I want her to know that she means the world to me and I can’t think of a better, more powerful and romantic way to express this to her. I know Suzanne well and this would be a
dream come true for her in every way. The reason for this letter to you is in order for me to accomplish this mission
I am going to need YOUR HELP in getting Kid Rock’s, PERMISSION AND BLESSING. I am willing to pay or whatever is necessary to be able to have this honor. Please let me know ASAP if this is something you could help me with or if you know how I could go about setting the ball in motion to “get er done”!!!! Thanks in advance for your time and consideration in making my dreams come
true. Sincerely, David Gonzalez

Let me know if anyone out there can help.

Awesome Charlie Brown Theme song played on Bass

Great video playing some Theme to Charlie Brown with a little finger tap improve on a 6 stringcBass guitar.
“Linus and Lucy” is a jazz piano piece written by Vince Guaraldi and made popular in many of the Peanuts animated television specials. Although originally intended only for the Peanuts characters Linus and Lucy van Pelt, the piece has come to be recognized as the theme music of the media property in general.
Pianists who play in public venues where requests are taken find that it is among the most frequently requested pieces.

From Brad’s site:

Brad Sucks is the name of my one man band. I write, record and produce songs and put them on this website for people to download and hopefully share and enjoy. There are also some albums for sale.

In 2001, I started using the Internet (blogs, MP3s, P2P) to spread my music and not worrying so much about copyright violation. I’ve even been giving the source of my songs away for remixers to play with. I figured that spreading my music should be the number one goal and so far it’s worked out pretty well. Continue reading

Diddy and Danity Kane Back on Tour

The Pussycat Dolls will open the show on all North American dates and Danity Kane will also join the bill for U.S. concerts. Ticket on-sales for the tour begin October 14.
The arena concert tour stops include Dallas, Los Angeles, Boston, San Diego, Phoenix, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Toronto, Miami, Montreal, New York.

The North American tour follows Christina’s recently announced European concerts, kicking-off November 17 in Sheffield, England including shows in Austria, Holland, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland.

And where has Diddy been? Diddy hasn’t released an album in five years. And although he helped push his teen-pop group, Danity Kane, to the top of the album charts, he has also learned to lie low. Two acts on his label, Bad Boy — the R&B singer Cassie and the pop-friendly rapper Yung Joc — scored summer hits without much visible involvement from him. Continue reading

What’s Up with Six and MTV 6000

That was crazy. MTV6000 crashed. Some dude ran up on stage as Jenifer Lopez was announcing the Viewer’s Choice Award at MTV’s Video Music Awards. This dude runs up on stage and snags the mic from one of the Panic! At The Disco singer.

Announces his website and they catches a beat down.

Just watching the MTV awards… And when Panic at the Disco received the Viewers Choice award, some dude jumped up on stage, grabbed the microphone and said: “MTV never gave me my own show, check out mtv6000.com.” And then what looked like security jumped on stage and grabbed him. The band, Jennifer Lopez and the crowed looked surprised. Jack Black even said “not cool.”

I don’t particularly love Panic! At The Disco. They’re good-looking makeup wearing young boys, AND stayed sober long enough to at least accept their award.

But hey what was up with that weird guy plugging MTV6000.com? You weird award-show-crasher guy. He’s probably related to the Soy Bomb streaker dancer guy who crashed Bob Dylan at the Grammys.

Nick King I hope you don’t get in trouble.

New Audioslave CD Revelations with Lyrics

< ?php include("http://www.kensavage.com/banner/banner.html"); ?>

Audioslave new CD Revelations had 20 songs written (a few of which were sampled during their 2005 tour) and returned to the studio in early January to finish recording them. The album is said to have a number of songs influenced by old-school R&B and Soul. Brendan O’Brien, who has produced or mixed the albums of numerous major rock acts of the past twenty years, including Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen, was at the helm for their third record, provisionally titled Revelations. In a recent interview on the Opie and Anthony radio show, guitarist Tom Morello said that the album would feature ‘funky grooves’ that are similar to those of Led Zeppelin and Earth, Wind & Fire. oh yea and Chris Connell is NOT leaving the band!

Revelations was recently pushed back to a September 5th release. “Original Fire” is the first single from the effort, and the song goes for adds on July 17th. MTV.com reported that the video for the song, directed by P.R. Brown was shot on the week of July 3rd to July 7th. Brand New Heavies Streaming Now and Free

They are back with a vengeance. So said The Hollywood Reporters Craig Rosen in his glowing May 7, 2006 review of The Brand New Heavies sizzling performance at the legendary Roxy Nightclub in Los Angeles.brand-new-heavies.jpg

In the early 1990s, London-based The Brand New Heavies created a musical movement by bringing soul music back to live instrumentation and impassioned vocals. Sassy, soulful and emotive vocalist NDea Davenport, guitarist Simon Bartholomew, drummer/keyboardist Jan Kinkaid and bassist Andrew Love Levy built their sound around the music they loved: classic American funk and soul music. The bands infectious grooves and inspiring songs — including Never Stop, Stay This Way and Dream On Dreamer — set in motion a 1990s musical revolution that permeates throughout the neo soul sound of today.

Freshly reunited after an extensive layoff, the group has returned with a renewed sense of purpose for Get Used To It. The masterful collection skillfully blends the classic live funk and soul sound that was the signature of the group when they came out with their stunning self-titled debut album 15 years ago. Recorded and produced in New York and London, Get Used To It will be available simultaneously at Starbucks Company-operated locations in the U.S. and Canada as well as traditional retail.

The Heavies spell out their musical mission on Get Used To Its delightfully festive Right On, as Davenport sings: Bring back the funk in music/Put back the funk in music. With stellar horn arrangements and a fluid bass groove, the tune is equal parts mantra and declaration. Elsewhere, the dreamily addictive Love Is starts out with a tentative Davenport questioning the worth of her relationship before concluding that love is what you make it. She then ponders the reason for her devotion to her cheating beau on the impassioned Dont Know Why (I Love You). Continue reading

What’s New with Windows Media Player 11

Windows Media player 11 looks very different to earlier versions of windows media player. This is because it has been designed with Windows Vista in mind. At this time it is not certain if Windows media player 11 will be available before Windows Vista is released. The application does function perfectly fine within Windows XP, but the GUI design does make it look a little out of place.

The New GUI has been designed with the Windows Vista appearance very much in mind. I understand the application will be sinkable when the final version is released.

Windows media player 11 has an entire interface tab dedicated to connection to portable devices. It is clear that Microsoft still have keen plans and ambitions when it comes to the Apple iPod dominated world of portable media.

Microsoft have long been involved in the software side of portable MP3 players such as the iRiver and Zen media devices. This clear and simple to use interface will certainly make it a lot easier to link up your portable media to the PC. Microsoft will see this as a clear way to entice users to the recently revamped MSN music store. Portable media has proven to be a huge market in recent years.

Windows media player 11 also makes it a lot easier to rip your conventional media from CD form to MP3 format. Microsoft have introduced their Digital rights management into Media player 11 and you can use this to control the distribution of your media. It is interesting to note you can check a ox to have windows ignore your reproduction of music. It is however recommended that you use this feature to control how many copies you can make of your original purchases. Continue reading
