Fantasy Football Tips for Draft Day

I know it’s many months away but here’s an article I found to get ready for Fantasy Football Draft Day:

Mark G is a fantasy football veteran, who has played for many years and won his fair share of championships. He runs Fantasy Football Spiral, a free site that offers fantasy football strategies, rankings, predictions, a forum, and more. If you need even more resources to win your league, check out the site and you won’t be disappointed…

Draft day. Perhaps the most important day of your fantasy football season. This is when you build your team. This is when you laugh at your opponents when they pick an injured player. This is when you find gems in the 7th round who outperform players picked in the 3rd. In other words: don’t screw it up! Let’s go over some advice that you should follow on draft day: Continue reading

SPLIT DECISION week 9 of The Contender

In a lavish suite at Caesar’s Palace, the contenders faced their first trial of round two: fill the hole left by Juan de la Rosa‘s departure with a previously eliminated boxer. Each of the remaining fighters wrote down their vote, and placed their ballot in Tommy’s cap. “We got to see a trunk full of a million dollars yesterday, and with this vote, we’re bringing someone back who could very well be fighting for that,” Joey Gilbert said.

Anna Kournikova stalker ruled incompetent

A man accused of stalking tennis star Anna Kournikova was ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial Wednesday by a state judge, who had him removed from a court hearing because of repeated disruptions.

William Lepeska, 40, will be treated at a restrictive mental facility in Florida for the next six months under the order by Circuit Judge Diane Ward. If he shows sufficient improvement, Lepeska could then be tried on charges stemming from his alleged attempts to contact Kournikova in person, by mail and via the Internet.

Now she can get back to playing tennis and looking good.

Phil Mickelson wants to repeat Masters win

There may never be a better time for Phil Mickelson to accomplish what only three players have ever done at the Masters – successfully defend a title at Augusta National. Mickelson, who won his third tournament of the season Monday when he captured the BellSouth Classic in a playoff, is red-hot and sitting atop the PGA Tour money list with $3.6 million in earnings.

But there’s not enough money in the world to buy a second consecutive green jacket. That must be earned the way Jack Nicklaus (1965-66), Nick Faldo (1989-90) and Tiger Woods (2001-02) earned it.

Peter Manfredo Jr returns to The Contender

Episode 5 saw the return of Peter Manfredo Jr to the Contender gym. And immediately the West team went to work to see which fighter would get a chance to hand Manfredo Jr. a second loss. But first they spent a little time celebrating Sergio Mora’s win in the previous episode with a poker game with Antonio Tarver. Peter emerged victorious over Miguel Espino in five rounds of intense boxing action.

World Series trophy to Visit Dracut

Can you believe it?

The Red Sox World Series trophy will touch almost all the bases in Greater Lowell on Saturday.

The $15,000 sterling-silver trophy will visit Tyngsboro, Groton, Dunstable, Pepperell and Westford this Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Tyngsboro Elementary School on Westford Road.

The visits, arranged by state Sen. Steve Panagiotakos and state Reps. Bob Hargraves, Colleen Garry and Geoff Hall, is sponsored by the Massachusetts State Lottery.

After winning their first world championship in 86 years, the Sox promised to take the trophy to any city or town in New England that requests it.

No players are expected to accompany the trophy Saturday, but the Westford Academy High School Alumni Association will hold a scholarship fund-raiser party during the Westford visit.

Raffles, face painting and balloons are included in the baseball theme night, said Jim Arciero, Panagiotakos’ legislative director and president of the alumni association.

The trophy is also scheduled to visit Dracut on April 5, and is expected to swing through Shirley, Ayer, Harvard and Littleton on April 14.

Finally a 4×4 Jeep pc game

Think you know 4×4? Try this game from Jeep. It’s finally something to play on your computer that simulates the off road action of driving a Jeep. I especially like the Wrangler section. Although some of the techniques they provide I doubt they work in the real world. Or atleast where I go off-roading.

Ishe Smith defeats Jeff Fraza on The Contender

As Ishe Smith celebrated the sweet taste of victory, Jeff Fraza, 27-year old boxer from Haverhill, MA, (and close to my hometown) learned that he had contracted chicken pox.

Jeff was removed from the competition. However, Jeff’s East team did win their first Contender challenge which gave young Najai Turpin the chance to face Sergio “the Latin Snake” Mora. During a stirring five-round battle in the ring, Mora defeated Turpin.

Tough break Jeff. Your potential is high enough that I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again sometime.

Tiger Woods Trumps Phil Mickelson at Doral

Tiger Woods returned to the No. 1 ranking in the world as he prevailed Sunday in the much-anticipated duel between himself and Phil Mickelson.

Woods birdied the 17th hole Sunday to shoot a six-under 66 and win the Ford Championship at Doral. He finished at 24-under-par 264, good for a one-shot win over Mickelson, who shot a final-round 69. Continue reading

Phil Mickelson shoots a 64

With 11 of the top 12 players in the world playing the Ford Championship at Doral this week, it’s little surprise that many are in the early hunt.

Phil Mickelson opened with an eight-under par 64 Thursday and shares the lead with two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal and Q-School winner Brian Davis. Mickelson, who has never finished in the top 10 at Doral, made 10 birdies on the day, which led the field. He also led the field in driving distance and sand saves, at one point getting up and down from a greenside bunker for birdie on a par 4.

Get the duck boats ready, Boston

It was a victory for all those who still believe in the concept of team. In an era of the “me” athlete, the Patriots dynasty confirms their way is the right way. It was a credit to a team with amazing focus, which looked neither behind nor ahead, and went 17-2 for the second straight year.

“We’ve never self-proclaimed ourselves anything,” said the amazing Tom Brady, who is now 9-0 in the postseason despite playing last night just a couple of days after the death of his grandmother and with his father in the hospital. “We just love playing ball. At times we try to express to everybody what we’re about. In four years, I’ve never had a receiver complain he wasn’t getting the ball, or a running back complain he wasn’t getting carries.”

To a man, after the win, the Patriots refused to be drawn into any dynasty talk. “You toot your horn, you forget what it took to get you there,” said tackle Matt Light.

Deion Branch, who caught 10 passes in last year’s Super Bowl, had 11 catches for 133 yards last night to earn MVP honors. Mike Vrabel, a linebacker, caught a TD pass from Brady for the second straight Super Bowl. Rodney Harrison was again superb, with two interceptions. One of those came at the Patriots’ 4 to kill a Philly scoring threat in the first quarter, the second with nine seconds left in the game.

The win was a fitting farewell present for offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

Good Peyton Manning Joke for the Patriots. GO PATS!

Peyton Manning, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Colts flag in the window. “This house is yours for eternity, Peyton,” said God. “This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here.” Continue reading

No show for Red Sox players in Lowell

The Boston Red Sox World Series trophy tour heads north. Lowell Red Sox Nation waited 86 years to savor a world championship.

Team officials stop this afternoon in Lowell, home of the Red Sox’s short-season Single-A New York-Penn League affiliate, the Spinners.

Confirmed appearing today in Lowell is Red Sox Senior Vice President of Affairs, Larry Cancro.

WHO?

Would have been nice to have Doug Mientkiewicz there. He played with the Lowell Spinners beginning his career. The Red Sox thought that he or anyone else representing the team wouldn’t be a good idea to send to Lowell.

Patriots beat Rams 40-22

Adam Vinatieri beat the St. Louis Rams with his leg in the 2002 Super Bowl. This time, he used his leg and his arm. Man this guy is money.

The Patriots’ kicker hit a season-best four field goals, then threw his first career touchdown pass on a fake to help New England bounce back from its only loss of the year with a 40-22 victory Sunday.

Corey Dillon returned after a one-week absence with 112 yards rushing on 25 carries and a touchdown for the Patriots, whose 21-game winning streak ended in a loss to Pittsburgh last week.

Brady was 18-for-31 for 234 yards and the first of his two touchdown passes also was an oddity with linebacker Mike Vrabel on the receiving end of a 2-yard play in the second quarter. Vrabel has three career touchdown receptions, one of them coming in the Super Bowl last season.

Red Sox force game 7 and 1 win from 2004 WORLD SERIES

Gritting his teeth and grimacing throughout, Curt Schilling willed away the pain in his right ankle and the Boston Red Sox got the benefit of two reversed calls to move within one win of the most shocking comeback in baseball postseason history.

For the second straight year, the New York Yankees and the Red Sox will go to a Game 7, a winner-take-all battle for the AL pennant between baseball’s perennial pinstriped power and a Boston team desperately trying to win the World Series for the first time since 1918. Thanks to Mark Bellhorn with a 3 run homer. Maybe now he’ll get the respect he’s due with being in the lineup over Pokey Reese.

Pitching on a dislocated ankle tendon that forced him out of the opener, Schilling smacked the Yankees by allowing one run over seven innings to lead the Red Sox over New York 4-2 Tuesday night and pull Boston into a 3-3 tie in an AL championship series that was three outs from a sweep just two days earlier.

Personally I thought the way the Yankees play ball at home is bullshit. Playing uplon the crowd to sway calls is also bullshit. The way Alex Rodriguez complained about knocking the ball out of Boston pitcher Aroyyo’s glove is the way a baby would cry after getting his bottle taken away from him. Rodriguez raised both hands and put them on his helmet, screaming about the reversal and the game was held up for 10 minutes while fans tossed debris on the field and Yankees manager Joe Torre argued.

After Boston’s Orlando Cabrera was ruled safe at first base in the ninth, preventing the Yankees from completing a double play, public address announcer made his second announcement for fans to maintain order. The umpires talked with senior vice president of security in the commissioner’s office, as Yankees reliever Tanyon Sturtze warmed up. Helmeted police then came on the field and kneeled in foul territory along the stands on both the left- and right-field sides in the top of the ninth.

Terry Francona mentioned in post game interview that Wakefield is not a definite to start tomorrow but I bet he goes with Lowe.

Brendan has some great captures of A-hole hitting Aroyyo.
