Connect an iPod to a home stereo
Connect an iPod to a home stereo Share on FacebookWhat’s the best way to hook up an iPod, or any portable media player, to a home stereo?
The easy cable way:
- Buy a $5 1/8-inch mini-to-stereo RCA cable from RadioShack.
- Connect the RCA end to Aux In or CD In on back of your stereo.
- Plug the mini end into the iPod jack. Or better yet, if you own an iPod dock, plug it into the dock’s line-out jack.
- Press Play.
Afraid of cables? Check out FM transmitters for the iPod. My brother and a few friends have tried them and definitely don’t love ‘em, but they may work for you.
And definitely get yourself a NaviPod wireless remote if your iPod is often anchored to your stereo. Also check out this article about how to get more use out of your iPod.

The best way to connect an iPod to a stereo is through an iPod dock. Using the headphone jack delivers poor quality sound in an A/V.
