Google got hacked!?
The world of Google came to a screeching halt on Saturday. The internet search giant was down worldwide for approximately 15 minutes from 6:45pm to 7pm eastern time. Access to Google’s popular search function, Gmail, Google News and even their marketing and business services were all unavailable during that time.
According to Google spokesman David Krane, the outage was due to a Domain Name Server (DNS) issue, although several internet bloggers have speculated that the company was simply hacked. During the outage, some visitors who tried to access Google were reportedly rerouted to SoGoSearch.com.
But Google denies any such hacking.
“It was not a hacking or a security issue,” Krane told the AP. “Google’s global properties were unavailable for a short period of time. We’ve remedied the problem and access to Google has been restored worldwide.”
Google serves an estimated 3 million unique users every day.
