KCRW Good Food Radio ShowRecently I was asked to participate in a radio talk show segment about Alli on KCRW’s Good Food hosted by Evan Kleiman. The show presented the topic of Alli Diet Pill pros and cons. I was on to talk about Alli’s pros…but what about the cons?

Good Food had Dr. Nan Fuchs on to discuss consequences of taking Alli Diet Pill. Basically her argument against Alli was based on the fact that along with the amount of fat your body absorbs being reduced so is your fat soluble vitamin absorption.

Dr. Nan Fuchs painted the picture that while taking Alli MOST of the fat that you consume is not absorbed into your body. Therefor, her argument stated, you are also not absorbing MOST of the vitamins that you need to stay healthy. Stated this way, you would obviously assume that taking the Alli Diet Pill is detrimental to your health.

What was left out of her statement were the actual percentages of fat that Alli causes your body not to absorb. I’m no mathmetician but I don’t think that 25% is the same as MOST. 25% of your fat intake, to me, is one fourth or some would even say a quarter…any way you want to say it, it’s not MOST.

So her statement that while taking Alli you are not absorbing MOST of the fat soluble vitamins that your body needs is not true. She also left out the fact that Alli urges you to take a multivitamin to replace any of the vitamins that your body is not absorbing through fat consumption.

Our segments were taped separately so unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to rebut any of Dr. Fuchs arguments against taking Alli but all in all I would say that I was able to get the point across that when taken correctly and responsibly Alli can be an asset to anyone trying to lose weight.
