Mad cow disease in America

Mad cow disease in America Share on Facebook

America’s Department of Agriculture has confirmed that an animal has tested positive for BSE or mad cow disease.

Addititional tests will be done at a British laboratory to confirm the results. The location of the animal – described as a beef breed – hasn’t been revealed.

The only confirmed case in the US of mad cow disease was found in December 2003 in a Washington state dairy cow.

The discovery comes at a time when Deparment of Agriculture officials have pressed Japan and Korea to resume buying of American beef. Both nations were major buyers of US beef until they suspended purchases in 2003.
