Oprah Winfrey Celebrates 22th Season with Car Giveaways

Oprah Winfrey Celebrates 22th Season with Car Giveaways Share on Facebook

Oprah Is Giving Away Cars

Television host Oprah Winfrey had a surprise for the 276 members of her studio audience when she opened the latest season of her daytime talk show on Monday — she gave them all new cars. The $7 million giveaway came courtesy of General Motors, which provided the free Pontiac G6 sports sedans, a new line of cars, as part of a promotional deal with Winfrey’s Chicago-based show, a spokeswoman for her Harpo Productions said. The automotive handout introduced a “Wildest Dreams Come True” theme for the 19th season of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which has reigned as the top daytime talk programs in U.S. syndication since its debut in 1986. “No dream is too wild, no surprise too impossible to pull off,” Winfrey said during the telecast.

The show opened with Winfrey calling 11 members of the audience to the stage and surprising them with the new car. She then handed out gift boxes to the rest of the audience, saying one of them contained the keys to a 12th free car. At the count of three, the boxes were opened all at once, revealing to shrieks of delight that everyone had won a set of keys.

Winfrey then led the ecstatic crowd outside the studio to a parking lot filled with G6s topped with big red bows. Each member of the audience was instructed to contact a Pontiac representative to personally customize the actual cars they will receive, allowing them to choose the color and features that come with a fully loaded model.

“We’ve never done a giveaway like this before,” Harpo spokeswoman Carly Ubersox told Reuters.

She said most members of the audience had been specially selected from letters sent in advance by viewers on behalf of themselves, friends or family who were in need of a new car. But the audience members were kept in the dark about the nature of the show until it was taped.

Winfrey also gave away a four-year college scholarship, $10,000 wardrobe and make-over to a young woman who spent her teen years in foster care and homeless shelters. And a family with eight foster children was presented with a new houseful of furniture and electronics plus a $130,000 check to cover their mortgage and home repairs.

I am 17 and unfoutunantly without a car. A girl my age needs a car for transportation for a night out. My 1988 Automatic BMW is broken. I was told that the transmission slips and it would cost 3,000 dollars to fix it.My father only paid 1,000 for it. The car is not worth fixing because it has rear wheel drive. In Rhode Island thats the worst thing you can have. What i am asking for is a new car,not just any car but my all time favorite car the escalade. Of course it would need spinning rims and a built in TV/DVD system and a navigation system so i don’t get lost on my trip to my dream college. My other top favotite cars are the linchon navigator with body kit and rims and the crystler 300 with rims. These are just far away dreams of mine right now because of the rediculous price it cost. Right now I need to woorry about if i can afford to go to collage or not. I’ve seen that you gave 276 people cars and I would like you to make my dream come true.

I think that is sad. I’m a 27 year old mother of four without a vehicle. We live in Las Vegas so walks get HOT! I would give anything to have any type of car just to have one! Asking for rides or taking the bus so my kids can eat or go to school…it sucks! Then you have a 17 year old talking about Escalades so she can hang out! Please…child you need a reality check! Try being a parent with a crappy income and NO car……

Hi Oprah, how are you? I’m a 19 year old mom with two kids and it is very hard to get around, asking my parents to take me to the kids’ appointments and my appointments, to school (community college), and even to the store. My boyfriend and I are seperated due to the fact that I want to go to school fulltime and it can’t happen if I stay with him b/c when he gets home, which would be the only time for me to study, it’s “our” time to spend together and I don’t think that’s really fair. There’s also other reasons why I left him, but that’s besides the point. I guess what I’m really trying to say is I wish, hope and pray every night that I will win a car online (you know, on those car sweeps and stuff). But if you can grant me that wish you’d be my angel and I’d be so thankful to you for the rest of my life to come!

Hi! My mom won tickets to your show and she was going to take me. But the problem is I’m 13 years old. But im very mature if you ask me. We got the tickets in the first place because of a raffle that we donated $50 to the hurricane relief. I really want to go.

    12/06/2005 at 6:26 pm

    Hi oprah,
My name is angela, and about a year ago before my 17th birthday I got into an accident. My dad told me that he was planning on buying me a car for that birthday but due to the fact I got into an accident he could not afford it. I have taken up a lot of my parents money from the accident, which is still going on today. They have brought me every where I need to go. But my dad still insists that he wants to buy me a car, but I know its hard to afford right now, especially with Christmas coming up. I’ve tried the free car give aways on the internet and all that but theres a million other people applying for those too. So, I’m not trying to sound greedy and ask for a car so I can drive around with my friends all night, I need a car to get back and forth from school and work. I want to lift the burden off my parents shoulders of them having to drive me anywhere. I would really appreciate a car. Thank You!!

Hi,I think it is nice and all that people get a free car, they are really blessed.I don’t want to take away from anyones joy but let me tell you my daughters story. She was 25 had a life, truck everything she worked hard for. Then she was raped by a marine had a mental break down and could not pull herself together, lost everything she had worked so hard for,now they say she is schizophrenia. What happened? Well we have been working with her ever since, now she is feeling pretty good and trying to get back to some kind of life, she is going to college on line and needs to have a car to get to school for some classes. But shes not giving up,she saves from her ssa check evry month $50 and a year more maybe she will have enough to buy a cheap car.Belive me with the problem she has if she can do it all of you complaining you did’t get a free car can do it to.I tried to make this short, but there is lots more that I can’t go into not.She says she is blessed so much. She will have her own car again and if you all try you can to.

    Dear Oprah,

My daughter is a single parent raising a 13 year old daughter alone. She struggles waiting on tables for $2.20 an hour plus tips. Her spouse of 13 Years left her for a younger woman. She is supposed to get child support from her husband who abandoned her and their daughter when their daughter Kayla was 4 months old. Its’ been a hard road for 13 years and now she needs help more than ever before. A used car would make life more tolerable. Could you please help? Thank You

Hi my name is Brett Martin, i am a 23, and i have three kids. Three year old Preston, one year old Sheldon, and a 19 year old foster kid. Me and my wife has always lived pay check to pay check. Well we decided we were not going to live on the bottom forever. so my wife has started back to school and we don’t dream little so she is tring to get a md. i have nothing but love for my family and i bust my back side to make sure everyone has and gets what they need. We are getting in a rough time it seemed like everything is falling apart at the same time. I work night to stay at home with the kids during the day while she is in school and then she goes straight to work from school. we have been just pulling through month to month some times we dont make it and have to take payday loans to cover bills but we seem to always pull through. well with the struck of bad luck are family can threw a rod. and the only other car we have is a jeep that we owe more then it is worth so we are tring to make it around with one car which in no means is a family car it is missing a window and this time of year it is super cold. I would like to leave this with one thing i don’t beleive in hand outs i beleive in returning the favor. If we are able to keep on going down the road we are eventualy we will get ahead and then it will be our turn to help other people. thank you for your time. Thank you Martin Family

    Dear Oprah,
I am 19 years old. I am currently driving a 1987 Chrysler Lebaron. It was my grandma’s old car. It held up through the years but it’s on its last limb. It leaks evrything from oil to transmission fluid. The transmission is going too. It jumps and slips on turns. It doesn’t pay to put even more money than i already did and buy a new transmission. I go to college and work. I try to save as much money as i can but it’s hard when your can only work part time and go to college. Also having to frequently by oil and other car needs just to keep the car running. I commute back and forth to college every day to so without a car i am stuck. My dad and mom can’t help me out either because they are both working just to pay off bills and other needs in life. They can’t afford to buy me a car. They feel bad because they know how much a new car would mean to me but their is nothing they can do. I thank you for your time and hope that you can change my car troubles somehow and relieve me of my stress and my parents stress. i dont even need a new one a used car would be fine. thank you

    Dear Operah,
Hi, I am a 23 year old single mother and I recently lost my job. Since me and my son Hunter who is 5 have been struggling. I still try to give him what he needs, but times are hard. On top of that, I have lost my car in a wreck and it was totaled. Now, my landlord is trying to get me out of our home and it doesn’t look like I will be going back to college this fall either since I can’t afford it. I was just wondering if you could make my dreams come true and help us out in this time of need. God bless and thanks for you time.

    Dear Oprah,
Last year I found out that my dad had cancer, he had been keeping it from me for three years. As soon as I found out I took a leave of absence from my job to take care of him. This all happened at the same time I purchased my first house, very own, house. The house is a fixer upper in a quiet country burrough. I was planning to fix it up and move my dad in with me and take care of him in this setting. He unfortunately decided to keep his illness a secret from me for too long. His days on this earth were less than 120 according to the health care officials, and his condition verified it. On July 8th,2005, my father indicated to me that he was healthy enough for me to go to the house that I purchased to cut the grass and pick up the mail, about a two hour deed. What happened when I returned I never would have imagined in a million years. When I arrived back home to his house both doors were locked and the lights not on. This made me uneasy, since he had a timer for the lights.Upon entering I heard a clicking sound coming from the north end of the house, it was my father sqeezing the trigger of a rifle that I didn’t know he had. It didn’t fire until I called out “DAD”, and he looked starteled at me. Well I was so horrified of what I saw next that I wont say.Because my father committing suicide, none of his insurance paid a dime, I have lost eight and a half months of work from being om mental/behavioral health dissability. I have been living with a twenty foot hole in the front wall of my house all winter along with a roof that isn’t even completely attached. My heat loss this winter has been 72%, your thinking what about his fathers house, well, I was initally accused of shooting my father. The house and his assets have been placed into a frozen state by the state of new york. And I have no desire to live where my father shot himself. Oh, did I mention that the town is forcing me to connect to the new sewer that they just built. I can’t afford to convert and connect to it. I can’t even afford my car, mortgage, insurance, and taxes, let alone repairs to my house. And I still have to cover the bills on my fathers house as well.I am about to file bancruptcy to end it all, if I can afford that.

Sometimes I wonder how different my life would be if I had the wealth that Oprah and all of those like her have. I wonder if I would transform into a ‘ material girl ‘ or if I could keep my head on straight. At this point I would like to think that I would do good things with my blessing of wealth and prosperity. I know that there are many people who do help people and give to charities but also many more who only think of themselves and the fabulous lifestyle that they are able to lead. I think some of the shows on TV only lead us to want more and more and make us crave just a taste of that rich and famous lifestyle. I also wonder how stressful it would be to have that much money and hear all of the hardship stories that others are suffering and not knowing which ones are true or which ones are scams, everyone always wanting something from you…..I mean, Oprah can’t save the world, she can’t buy everyone a car. It’s a nice dream, to think that someone will come along and make things just a bit easier for you…to buy you a much needed car, pay for your childs college tuition or simply just bring you some groceries. Life is hard for a lot of people. Each day I could make a list of things I really NEED and an even longer list of things I WANT…but then, I think of others and how hard their lives are. In some countries, they have no use for a car, their only concern is for food and water. Simply to survive. I think here in America especially, we are spoiled and forget sometimes what is truly important. I also know that the past 6 months have been the hardest of my life and I have no idea what tomorrow holds for me….things could be better or things could get worse. But today, I will do the best I can do, with what I have and be grateful that I am providing for my children and that tonight they do not go to bed hungry. Tomorrow when they wake up, they will put on clean clothes, they will not be designer brands, but they will be clean and when I get in my car, I will not be ashamed that it is not a new car…but I will be thankful that it gets me where I need to go.

    Name: Ayan Isse
    D.O.B. 1969 Somalia
    Citizenship: Canadian
Current: Residence: Chicago since October 29, 2006

    Dear Oprah
My sole reason for coming to Chicago is to seek your help retrieving my children; my husband of 15 years duped me into moving back to Somalia to “visit “ his parents after failing, for a second time, to make a wage satisfactory for me and my nine children. Please understand that in Canada we had a beautiful life. My husband operated a restaurant, we had a beautiful home, our children attended school, were well fed and clothed. When we arrived in Somalia our home ultimately became a blanket in the wild. Living amongst camels and other animals was the only shelter afforded; from the elements we hovered under a tree. We had no fresh water or food. To sustain ourselves we ate rice.

One day my husband went to get a loaf of bread and never returned; three months passed before he called from Canada to tell us he had left to find work so as to purchase a home and tickets for our travel back to Canada. Then when he returned to Somalia, he had a change of heart; he did not want to go back to Canada, furthermore, he wanted the children to stay and learn the Somalian language/ customs. My children and I were literally prisoners in the wild.

One day I feigned illness and convinced my husband I needed to go to a doctor in the city. I took my 2 year-old-daughter and had friends pay our airfare for a return flight to Canada. I sent my daughter to stay with my mother in Seattle, Washington, while I came to Chicago to seek your help. Since coming here, I have learned that my husband has another wife ( in Canada) and a 10-month-old-son. More importantly, my husband plans to marry off my 13 year-old-daughter to a 40 year-old-man after her circumcision. This is all in trade for a few camels.

Imagine the terror, agony, anger and pain that I am experiencing. Lend your ear, your heart to the horror my daughter is facing and she has no one to go to. Please help me. I am horrified by all of this and I need help financially mentally emotionally, but spiritually I am encouraged that this type of injustice will stop IMMEDIATELY, especially with your help.
Please help me save my family
Thank you for your time and attention. I have enclosed two video; one of our life in Canada, the other of our life in Somalia. Also, please find enclosed, a picture of my daughter___ Fatumo Diriyey___ now age 13.

With all-due-respect, you should all take a deep breath, and find some self-respect. Those lucky audience members are just that, lucky.

Some of them may have needed those cars, others could have most likely done without one. There are literally millions of people, possibly billions, who would like to have a car just appear in front of them- But the fact remains that there is almost no chance someone will provide them with that luxury.

I’m sure you could be in such a terrible situation that life is almost unbearable- Almost. You know what though, your situation is probably not nearly the worst. I’m sure you were born with the opportunity to make something of yourself, whether or not you followed through with it.

If you weren’t, though, too bad. As harsh as that may sound, take into consideration that some of the most prominent Hollywood stars, some of the richest men and women alive, started with almost nothing- What makes you so special?

I’m not posting here to dismiss any of you as not worthy, subhuman, or anything else. I just want you to realize that it’s up to you to make it in life. Don’t rely or expect anyone else to pick up your slack. We all know it can be tough, but there’s no one to blame but… no one. Unless you’re a terminally ill cancer patient, or well into your last years, nothing or no one (Not even your kids) can stop you from being successful.

For two years now, I have been scrooging just enough money to save up for a car. My money isn’t just sitting around, either. I have most of my money in stocks and mutual funds, in an account that allows me to trade for free. I should be done saving in just another year or two. Hopefully, I’ll be able to afford a car that pleases me, I definitely earned it.

The only thing that’s ever been handed to me: an opportunity.

    Simon S.,

    California

Simon, no one cares about you saving money to buy yourself a car. WHAT MAKE YOU THINK THAT YOU’RE SO SPECIAL? Some people are really feeling the crunch from the economy. and some business are using the economy for an excuse to fire people and to lay off people. so if you still have a job where you are able to save money then I say more power to you, and you should be thanking GOD. Don’t put people down because their going through hard times, because you one day could very well be wearing their shoes. So if some one can help these people to get some of the finer things in life that other wise they could not afford, then who are you to talk against it? For some people opportunity don’t come around everyday.

Oprah, Oprah, Oprah! To say the least, I have always wanted to meet you and you inspire my grandmother and I to the upmost, we watch your show daily. Well, I am here to find out when you are having another “BLESSING SHOW”. Thats what we call them. I am a 32 year old woman with 3 children who works very hard for a living. It is sad to say that I have never possessed a newer type vehicle. I have always had a used vehicle with no air or heat and majority of the time their was something wrong with the windows. I also support and take care of my grandmother in which we recently found out as developed cancer. It is very difficult getting her back and forth to the doctor without a reliable vehicle. She’s on oxygen 24/7 and its scary riding down the street in 108 degree weather with two tanks is the back seat. If you happen to have another Blessing Show where you are blessing people with newer reliable vehicles, please consider my family. I can be reached by e-mail mrslady61@yahoo.com. Thank you for your time and consideration. Love your Show

    Hi Oprah,
My name is Samantha Fox. I am almost 19 years old and live in College Station, Texas. 5 years ago my mother passed away leaving me with no social security benefits. I lived with my Father at the time who was very abusive in many ways. Finally a good friend helped me get help, by going to the police. I am so Thankful today to be out of that situation. After I left home I went to Foster-Care in New Richmond, Ohio. It was a big change but looking back I learned a lot and appreciate that time of my life now. A year after being in foster care my older sister and her Husband who lived in Texas (where I currently reside) took custody of me. After I turned 18 she no longer could afford to help me with my finances. She just recently started her own family and has a lot of debt herself. Since then Life has really changed for me. I work full-time and am also about to start college again in the Fall. Unfortunately I have to sell my car because I cannot make a payment on it to my sister who was so kind to let me borrow it anyways. I work a lot yes, but I do not have help with bills or school. For some reason I got denied Financial Aid and am now having to pay for that also. I am not going to come out and ask you for a free car but I just want to let you know that the 276 people who received new cars on your show are surely blessed. That is such a wonderful thing you did and I can’t imagine how many people are really Thankful. I was wondering if you know of anything that can help someone like me achieve a car. Even if it is a rust-bucket, I will be happy to drive anything that will get me to work and school. Since you are connected with so many people In this world I was hoping for some “hope”. Would you possibly be having another show in the near future that will be offering a car to someone in my situation?
I watch your show’s almost everyday when I have the time. You help so many people physically and mentally and I really look up to you. People like you do give me hope for the future- to over come such bad situations and be someone so inspiring. I hope that you will keep me in your prayers and Thank You very much for taking the time to read this. If it’s not too much trouble you can contact me at Sj_fox88@yahoo.com
    Regards,

    Dear Oprah,
I am a 18 year old student, who’s been through alot in the past year. On Labor day of 2006, my house was destroyed by a local flood, after thousands of dollars in renovations, my family and i were finally at ease. Then just about three weeks ago, the flood arrived again, this time it was worse, and as i ran out to move the car that i earned the money to pay for and paying for myself on top of school was, completely under water. Now, once again everything that i earned has just fallen apart. Now im stuck with no car and no money to pay for it..i thought i’d give this a try so you could atleast hear my story. I would be more than happy if i could win one of these cars, and finally something to be proud of and have effort shown for that. You are an amazing women, who helps so many people and if you gave me a chance to own one of these great cars, that would be something that i would never forget. You are truley a role model for many women in this world. Thank you

    Dear Oprah,

I think it is truly wonderful all the many things you do for people. I have some friends that I would like to tell you about. My friends, Dale and Darlene, are in desperate need of a vehicle. Dale has end stage liver disease and is waiting for a liver transplant. Right after Dale was diagnosed, the company he was working for closed, which left him with no health insurance. He and Darlene realizing that he would not be able to work for a while, sold the car they had recently bought (no longer being able to afford the payments). For a while someone in the community had loaned them a car that they used to go to medical appointments and local running around for errands. Now, that car has broken down and the owners took it back to fix. Dale and Darlene have not heard back frooom them if they are going to be able to use the car any more after it is fixed. They are also using a little truck that a family member was supposedly selling them, but the air conditioner is broken on it now which makes it very difficult for Dale to ride in. My husband has recently received a liver transplant, so we know it is hard enough for Dale to ride to the appointments that are local, but the transplant center is three hours away. They are not picky people. They are very loving and love to do things for other people. They need some support with a vehicle, can be used, but something that has a working air conditioner and a passenger seat that can recline so that Dale can travel as coomfortable as possible to his medical appointments. If nothing else can you tell me where we might find Dale and Darlene some help. They also have a fund raising account with NTAF to help with medical expense. If you can help my friends, please contact me. I will be glad to give you their last name then. Thank you for being the blessing to others that you truly are. Thanks again for any help or suggestions you can make.

    Dear Oprah, 9/06/07

My name is Samantha Wesley, and I am writing you this letter in hope that you may help me with my situation. On June 27, 2007 my 1991 Oldsmobile was stolen right from in front of my house. I received a knock on my door about 2:30 in the mourning, it was the police asking if I had known were my car was. After they had explain to me that my car was stolen and they had found it, we went to see it. Just as sure as they said it- there it was, my car ran into a light pole, all smashed up with, two flat tires ,and a broken window. I could not believe it. I tried to call a towing company and have it towed to my house until I got a chance to speak with my insurance company, however there wasn’t one open and my car was impounded. It took the insurance adjuster two weeks to go to the pound and get the car. After they finally got the car they told me that it was totaled and would coast more to fix then what it was worth. Okay now the insurance that I have is full-coverage and the policy offered, a rental car for a maximum of 15 days, and a new car. I did not receive any of the things they said I would. All I got was $300.00 dollars and I still have to pay the remaining bill on the car note with no help from the insurance company and still no car. My reason for asking you is because you do so many beautiful things for so many wonderful people I was hoping that you had room for one more. My daughter and I would appreciate any help that you may be able to offer.

    Sincerely :

    Samantha Wesley

    Hi Oprah,

My name is Diane Romanisko. I’m having trouble writing this note to you. I have never asked anyone for help before. I am 51 years old and have worked all my life. Anything I ever needed, I worked for. I have raised two daughters and I have been raising my first two grandchildren since birth. Oprah, in 1999-2000 I had a heart attack, died 4 times and came back for more. I applied for disability and was turned down. So, I went out and found a job. I worked 4 years as a telemarketer, Aug. 13th I was laid off and on the way home my transmission burned up on my van and I have been walking ever since. I really need some help, my husband has an abdominal aneurysm and is a last resort for surgery. I need to find another job but can’t since I have no transportation. Could you please help me so I can find a job and make my gd. kids proud.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Diane Romanisko

    dear oprah,
My daughter a former stay at home mother got the awaking of her life. the father of her children and the sole supporter of the family left her without any notice. in fact they had talked of working everything out, they have been together for 11 years. my grandson has diabetes and has to have insalin daily. he wanted her to stay with the kids and not work and she agreed.
Three days before he left he filled for emercency custidy of the children claiming she was unfit. he and his father are well know in this small town and the judge a freind, she did finally get shared care and is waiting to go for full custody. in the mean time he has tried to have her put in jail for useing his gas card, (before he left she use it) he reported it stolen and never told her he did. he planned everything out. he stopped making her car payments and cancel the insurance, before he left and now he has had the local police stopping her evry time they see her. i was able to get insurance for her, but i work a job that is at minimum wage. i don’t have the funds to help her and i live 1800 miles away.
he has had her evicted from their house, thank God for the help of the social service. But they can’t help with her vehcile. she has come a long way in the past month and a half. She is training for a new job now, but if she looses her car that will be it. she will have no way to go to work or to take her to doctors. they live in a small backward town in pennsylvania.
please if you could just help to get this caught up i would be forever in your debt.
i pray for her nightly, would you pray for her too! thank you for at least reading this.
    thank you

Get a brain, people. Oprah is not scrounging these pages looking for someone who might need a car. She didn’t even buy those cars. Hear me again:

SHE DIDN’T BUY THOSE CARS, PEOPLE.

It’s a good advertisement stunt by Pontiac to move more cars. It’s not a secret except for those who are too blindsided in their own predicament (notice I didn’t say selfishness) that she didn’t buy those cars. She probably profited from them. The cost for Pontiac to bring them on the show (advertisements), and the substantial ratings boost must have surely put a lining on her pocket.

I’m sorry if I hurt anyone’s feelings when I say that this is just pitiful. Post after post… Dear Oprah: I have a sad story to tell you. My . . .

Save it! Write a book. Go study. No one wants to hear it, especially her.

    08/07/2008 at 6:21 am

Dear Oprah, Hi to start off you are a blessing for so many people you have the kindest heart I have ever known and ask for nothing in return. Your topics have always been a good point of interest. I see you do episodes in reference to cars. My name is Barbara and I am 52 years old and a single parent of a 16 year old. I returned from Kuwait 2006 and came back to nothing as I left a very good friend in charge of my money that I was trying to save. I made very good money while deployed and it was a blessing for me to be able to go financially. I caught up on my bills and everything and actually gave my daughter things I never could but my friend whom I will not disclose spent everything I sent to her for the savings account, yes I made a mistake of trusting and now I have a problem trusting anyone. I have no real friends anymore as I also got injured and medavaced from Kuwait in Sept 2006 and ended up flying to Fort Eustis, VA to be assigned to a Wounded Warrior Unit. They treat me and my child very well emotionally. I have had surgery to correct the injury I sustained over there. When I returned I had 2500.00 dollars to my name didn’t know it at that time I bought this car. I struggled and actually ended up with no place to stay because my friend treated us so badly when I got back. I was told to sue her and take everything she had but I couldn’t she had nothing herself and a child in special needs and a father dying of cancer who died in 2007. So my heart said I couldn’t do that to her. I really have a heart that can’t hurt anyone. I get used alot these days. I came back to nothing and used what I had to put food in her house and buy a car. After that I was in the same boat when I left for deployment. I have a car paid for and in the last 90 days it has cost me 2000.00 dollars to fix and it still developes problems everyone thinks I can get loans and just buy another car Ms Oprah, I can’t. It takes a down payment which everytime I try to get enough to put down this car I have breaksdown. I am still military and will be MEB out. My daughter asks for nothing. She wants to work at 16 so she can help out can you believe that. I love her so much. But shes involved in activities in school and wants to still work weekends. But I have one car that always breaks down. I drive 40 miles one way to duty and back 5-6 times a week which I know takes it toll on my 2003 KIA. To this day I am still stuggling at times. I am also dealing with issues of depression because I have so many things I want for my daughter and can’t get it or am afraid to do it. If I was able to work but we cannot not have a second job while in this unit as we have so many appointments that are mandatory and work daily. I can’t comlain because I still am getting paid by the army until I am put out. This to me is a blessing but because of my car I have no savings and can’t keep one. I never owned a new car, never they are to expensive. I try to do my best for everyone and I try to help peole where I live by giving clothes and food and my time. This is me. I have the gift of gab but no friends as my trust issue is very bad. My daughter tells me to date and go out by myself but I don’t because there are issues that prevent this. Well I talked enough I would love to go on your show as a spectator at anytime and have tried to find out how but I am unable to find out how maybe someone who reads this can tell me where to get the tickets and where you are at. I haven’t been anywhere for awhile can’t afford it for myself but I try to let my child at least go somewhere if this means one bill doesn’t get paid it don’t get paid until next payday. Like I said before I love your show and it sometimes makes me cry and most of the time I am learning something or at awe. You take care of yourself and be safe, you keep your head high and I really hope your never cancelled. You look so well foryour age also. Your beautiful. Well take care and good-bye. 08/08/2008 at 8:16 pm

    Dear Oprah,
My name is Monica and I am an 18 year old first generation college student. I was searching for cars on the internet when i came across this website. I remember watching the eposide when it aired on television. I can remember thinking man i wish i was in the audience. When I was in middle school my father was the unfortunante victim of three strokes, with two back surgeries to go along with it. He was in the hospital for about one month and then in Cardinal Hill Rehablitation Center for about three weeks. As you are probably aware of the cost of even staying in a hospital for one day is extremley expensive and doesnt get any cheaper when a family of four has to survive on my mothers soul income as a factory worker. Well, here i am four years later and a high school gradaute. I was involved so much with school and it payed off. I was so lucky and greatful to have been given a full academic scholarship except for books to the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky which is about 2 hours from home. The cost to attend it for one year is around $23,000 dollars. So, i was very lucky, especially being the first person in my family to go to college. The only thing is that I am two weeks away from starting my college career and I am without a car. I have a part time job and save all of my money but I am still unable to afford a car. It doesnt mean i cant go to college but without a car, my parents, sister and myself will only be able to see each other twice a month. I am so close to my family and with my father being ill and going to the doctor still, i will never know when i may have to come home and without a car it will be nearly impossible. I have two weeks to figure something out. What should i do? Do you have any advice? I am in desperate need of help.

    Sincerely,
    Monica Slemp

    Dear Oprah,
My name is Phil Melendez, I am an eighteen year old student. My current automobile is a 1996 Subaru Legacy and it has 250,000 miles on the motor. I’m currently a student with a part time job and not a lot of money. I’ve been looking for a new car for about six months now and still have had no luck. My car isn’t going to hold up much longer I’ve already put 1200 dollars into it and I can’t do anymore. My car dying is going to be a hard thing, I will have no transportation to school and work which will leave me jobless and with no education. So if you could please help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you Oprah,
    Your biggest fan.

give me a break folks – oprah did not pay for these cars – gmc did!!! also, when you are given a car, you have to pay taxes on anything won or given to you over $599!!! so to all of you who had to put repairs at a cost of a couple thousand into your cars, you’re better off!!! think of what your taxes would be on a new 2008 car!!! geez, in the past 6 months, my husband put $1500 of repairs on his truck, i put $1200 in preventative maintenance on my car, my son put $500 into his car and my daughter needs new tires – but are we asking for a new car to replace them? hell no, we take care of them (notice preventative maintenance in the sentence). these are vehicles 10 years or older and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if you saw them. take care of your cars folks and quit asking for freebies – which are not freebies in the end!!!

Hello. I am a Junior in High School and i recently heard a speech about you from another student. We were required to do a speech on someone who helped out our country in some way. Anyways I never realized how much you went through and I think its amazing that you went and made something of yourself despite your hardships. I also would like to say I love what you are doing , honestly i’ll admit i never watch your show but after that speech i’m sure i’ll be a regular viewer.

Keep up the good work ,

this is ridiculous. People they can’t give away “free” cars. There is such a thing as gift tax. A lot of those members on the show didnt get a car because they could not afford the gift tax.

Oprah, cares about publicity and feeding her ego. When you have to pay as many taxes as we do in this country and live in poverty, dont think for a minute that anything appearing free or from the heart from some rich person or sponser will not have some devious motive behind it. Wake up people or things will never change.

    Hi! Ms.Winfrey
My name is Jearline Stovall and i’m a single mom of three girls. But i’ve been struggling to find some kind of help to make sure i can provide for my girls.I have very very bad credit and i can’t fix my small two bedroom house nor gat a more roomy vehicle. It’s not that promblem of trying to pay for anything i just can’t get approved with the major major credit problem that i have. I had dreams to back to school to better myself for my kids but i have to work night shift in order to have someone to watch my kids; also i wanted to be a model or professional dancer but i’m shy and can’t afford it. I really need your help if not for me; just for my kids. Ms. Winfrey i don’t want to ask you for much but if your reading this if you don’t help me with anything else; just help me put my oldest girls in some kind of dance or singing program because they like stuff like that but i can’t afford it.Their ages are 5,3,and 7mo.

    HI,Ms.Opraha Winfrey
My name is Bridget Hayworth,I’m thirty four years old.I’m a single mother of two girls also i have custody of my neice and nephew.I live in low income housing, pretty much all my life, and allways been a true believer in the Lord but I’ve been living as a christian for two and a half years.I’ve allways joked,to people with a bad car or homeless, telling them that,”I’m going to write Opraha, and tell her your situation”.I happen to stummble across your website.I know your wondering, what do you want or need? Well, I want/need a car, house amongst other things, only the LORD can provide,so I’m not asking for a car or house. What’s the use if I donn’t have the knowledge to keep it.I’ve been drug through hell and mudd and tried every opportunity to have doors slammed in my face.I give to anyone, help and love everybody, prayed and waited. I’ve tried to be a model to trying to start my own cleaning buiness,to foster care,to college, even a regular job.I’m tierd and need prayer and help on what direction to go.I ask because people want to know the secret to success and blessing. THANK YOU

    hello Mrs. Winfrey,
I am a single mother, with one child, his name is Noah. He will be one on valentines day. My pontiac Sunfire needs repaired and I don’t have the money to buy a new one for my son and I. We need a four door, it is hard getting him out of his carseat with a two door. I am living with my friend and I don’t have a job so I use my food stamps to help out with food. I don’t have a job because I can’t afford daycare and my mom has twins who are 2 years old so she can’t watch him that long, she does try to watch him while I go to night class for a couple of hours. I am still in the process of getting my high School Diploma. Thanks for reading this. We would be so greatful if we could have a new car. Noah and I thank you so much. God bless you.

    Hey Mrs. Winfrey,
I attend the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, where I am now a senior. I currently plan on attending Millsaps College next year, since I’ve already been accepted there. Both of my parents are retired and they really don’t have the money in these hard times to get a car for me so that I will be able to travel to and from school. My parents and I would really appreciate your generosity.

    03/24/2009 at 12:34 pm

    Hi Oprah and everyone else,

Is there such little love for each other in Canada that no one seems to want to help each other?
I am a divorced Mom of 3 children,2 grown-up and a 16 yr old.I am also a grandmom to 3 awesome children!!.My grand daughter who is a beautiful well mannered child, and 3 yr old twin boys.(they can be such a handful but i love it!).
One grandson was born with a rare heart disease called
Tratology of Fallot, which required him to have open heart surgery.Well not only did he have one surgery, there were complications which led to a second surgery 10 days after the first one.We almost lost him due to his aeorta tearing during the surgery which left him now a para-palegic.They tell us he will never walk now and we have to just deal with it!.What a life altering situation this has been for our family.
His Mom who is single is doing a great job with him and the rest of her children(i do applaud her for this).Anyway i am on disability myself but did manage to put together enough money to buy her a old van to transport herself and her kids. But the van is gone(we couldnt afford to fix it).And with her gone back to college to make a better career for herself to enable her to make a good life for her family she doesnt have money(nor do i) to replace her vehicle. Its getting really hard now as the child is growing(and getting heavier) to make all the appointments, especially as he now has a wheelchair…a podium(stander) a walker..stroller and other things that need to be transported also. Its even hard finding accomodations to fit their needs at a reasonable price. But she manages to keep them housed and fed with no monies left to even think about a vehicle.
I tried calling different places here trying to get a donated car but nothing.I do the best i can to help but i am on disability myself.
I sure hope there’s help out here in peoples hearts and minds.I don’t know where to go anymore to get her the help she needs and deserves for herself and her family.
I hope this note finds everyone in great health in mind, body and soul.
    God Bless you all.
    Thanks for listening

    A concerned Grandmother

    Hello Opra
I really love ur show. At this time I really don’t know where to begin. You see my problem is I am 54 years old an have always had a car and a place to stay. In october I lost my job and have been having a hard time making ends meet. In march my car broke down and My mother had a stroke. We live in different states and I need to be with her. I asking if there is any way u could help me with a car. It doesn’t have to be a new one a used car would help. It would make a big differance in our lives. I would be able to take my mom back and forth to her dr appointments and it would helpful for me to get a job. Please if possible would you help my family. Thank you if you cannot help us I will understand someone is more needy then me. If you cannot help us could you direct me to someone who can.
    Thank you Love and peace

    God bless you

Hi – Im a 40 yo mother of three living on my husbands single salaray of under 60K. So far he still has a job which we are most greatful for. But here lies the real problem, recently my van decided it was its time. The repairs were more than what the car was worth with no quarantee on the engine. What were we to do but put it to rest. We thought we would not have a problem getting a loan and getting a car at auction. Well I was wrong. We were approved for only 7k with having to put 6k down. This option did not work as we do not have that much cash on hand. Which is where we came into our problems. We pulled together as much cash as we could with what is in our CD 4k and will have to take out the remainder loan with the bank at a higher percentage rate We have been going to Auctions since the middle of January and we are getting outbid on every car they we have picked out. We arent too picky but do need a vehicle that will hold the family and well our gear, as I am a soccer coach and always have 1-2 extra children on hand. We were looking at used cars with average miles do not want to get to high of mileage and expect mechanical problems. I would think in this market we would get a bargain but from what we are learning, used car prices are going up and up. I am in the process of looking for a job, but with no transportation it makes it a little more difficult. If we at all fit the criteria I would love to have some help. This has been an extremely frustrating time. I am hoping that you might be able to help our family.

Thank you so much for all that you do, you inspire many of us on a daily basis.

    God Bless
    The Hagstrom Family

    Hello Oprah,
I have been huge fan of your show for a quite a few years now. I think that you are an inspirational person and not only would I love to meet you but I would also love for you to make my dream come true.I wish I could sit here and just say that I want this and that and that I have no financial problems or anything but that would be a lie. I am not only 18 and dealing with entering Adult Hood but I am also a student in High School, a single mom, a hard worker and a dreamer. I think everyone has a dream but i hope that you think/feel that my dream is significant to you as much as I feel that it is to myself. I am soon getting ready to graduate from High School and I plan to attend college to go into the dental field so that I might be able to take care of my son and myself. I being a strong woman must admit that I can be quite stubborn. I do not feel that I need a man to complete me and to depend on for my support and for my childs. However writing this to you seeming as if I need and am asking for help from you makes me seem very hipacritical. I want to reassure you that If i didn’t need the help than I most certainly wouldn’t be writing this right now. I had my child when I was 16 just a month shy of being 17. I was a junior in high school. His father however has not been in the picture very much since he has been born. Since I had my son I have been trying my best to be able to give him everything he would ever need/ want. However shortly after I had him my parents whom I lived with got a divorce. I of course was already going through a hard time trying to figure out if I was doing what a mother should do and taking on the task of school. My parents were very supportive of me through all of this..but once the divorce was final I had to make a harder decision as of where my child and I would live. I now live with my father. He watches my son throughout the day as I go to school. He has been not only a blessing to me but has also been my rock through all of my hard times. I have recently tried to get a vechicle but I have not heard yet rather or not I have been turned down. Since I am 18 and have a child not having a vehicle makes it a lot harder to get to school/work and to try to take my child to doctor visits…etc., Although I always find a way to those things it would be so much nicer to be able to depend on myself for once and not everyone around me. I ask for you to please take me and my child for consideration. I love my son more than anything on earth ….and I just want to be a good mother and a good influence on him throughout his life. If you choose not to help me or my child. That is fine I understand that there must be millions and millions of people doing and probably writing the same things to you right now. But I would like to thank you for the consideration. I think you are a remarkable person. One that is very caring and loving to the ones around you and even to others that you do not know. I hope to one day be able to meet you and to maybe even get to sit down and talk with you!…Thank You for everything you have done to help people like me and for others that might be in worse shape. Thank you once again for consideration.

I am in need of a car – I lost my job – lost my house – because of this economy I have not been able to secure employment – now my car is broken down and I do not have the money to fix it – the car is a 1984 model saab.

I need help also I am an older person and feel it is due to my age that no one wants to hire me although I can still do a good job for any employer as an administrative assistant or clerical worker.

    Sincerely,

    Hi,
My name is Alexis and I have a comment for everyone! I think that right now everybody is going through a tough time but I have learned that if you just believe and NEVER give up on your hopes and dreams, no matter how far away they are, they will come true.
When you fall, get back up and tell yourself that you are better than that and you know you can do it! I know that the light at the end of the tunnel may seem so dull or so far away but atleast you know that there is one and the faster you run the sooner you will get there.
I think that we all have our lives so mapped out to a T that we get let down when things don’t go exactly as planned, but every road has curves: some sharp, some long and some so twisted that we get scared when we get there and we just want to pull over and let someone else take the wheel. We have to just slow down a bit, take control and when we get to those curves tell ourselves that we can do it. It may take weeks, months or years to get around one curve but in the end you know that you made it ok and the next one won’t be so hard.
I know that some of you probably think that this might sound stupid but sometimes words are better than actions.
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. I hope these words will give some of you a little encouragement.
Good luck to everyone and please don’t ever give up!

I am a woman of 61 yrs. of age; which is still young enough to live happily for more years, hopfully. My predicament, keeps me from being able to enjoy life, as I could; via, having a car. I am a breast cancer survivor for 11 yrs. now; BUT, my other physicalle problems are getting worse. I am stating my ailments. because it stemms to the reason, that a vehicle of any kind, would improve my life’s quiality, and I have so very much still to offer this world. I am a freelance photographer, and a good one. I do paintings, but at the moment can not afford to paint. I have written a poetry book, which I am hoping soon to get published. MY problem is my degenerating and fractured discs in my back. I am in pain; but I do exersice and do not smoke or drink, just eat very healthy. Having a car, even a used one, I could go so many more places to do my photography, and other things. I do not have access to the bus line, after 5 pm, and live by myself, so I cannot even enjoy getting together with people at bingo, (which I would love to go ,when affordability is there). Well, this is my story. Sad, but true. I AM a lover of life, but I would like to get more out of it, and GIVE more, via vehicle.

I am a woman of 61 yrs. of age, which is still young enough to live a fulfulling life. I have a lot to offer to the world. I love photoghy and painting, and i’ve written a poetry book, not yet published. My dilema is that I would go to the ends of the earth, to get THE picture; but never mind the ozon layer, I can’t make it to the next town; reason being lack of transportion, even bus transp. I am on dissability, because I have a detereating spinal colomn, and more areas of my body are affected, now my feet, and jaw. (I have doctors proof of all my ailments.) So that being said, I could use any kind of vehicle, because I need the speed to photograph as much as I can. I have about all the pictures I could get, from aroun the wooded area around here, where I live. I am on a limited income, and therefor, can not get my own vehicle. I have a number 9 driving record. The best. I could afford my insurance, I would squish it in there, just eating one less fruit a day. Please help me, only if you can see this letter the way I have whole heartedly written it. Thank You for reading it anyways; if worse comes to worse. sincerely, Barbara M. E.

    Hello Oprah,
I’m a stay home mommy of 8 w/a hardworking husband that is struggling every day to make ends meet. We don’t live off the government…because we believe others needed more than we do. My family and I have NEVER taken a vacation because we can’t afford plus to hard for my hubby to get the time off from one of his jobs. I’m blessed w/children who understand that there’s more important things in this world than materialistic things. I want to go back to college when my youngest goes to school full time but I can’t afford it. I wish that my husband can have one job,but we will not be able to afford it because of our mortgage and bills. My parents have been very helpful supporting my family and I. The only hope my family and I to get through it everyday is GOD…we go to church every Sunday because we want to THANK GOD for every blessing he has already blessed us with. I wish one day that we will be able to afford living in this world…..I don’t want to be rich…i just want a paid off home and car…so my kids and I will be able to see their daddy. Which the only time we get to see each other are Sundays because I am on-call on the weekends to work. You’re very blessed that you don’t have to go through struggling to make ends meet. Hopefully one day our Lord will answer my prayer and bless my family and I a financial fortune so my kids and I will be able to spend and see their father more often. One day…I hope.

Now, that I am in need for help it’s very difficult for me. This last past year, I have been face with many obstacles that are placed in my pathway of achieving an education. I am a young women who gave up her apartment and job to move back home so that I could attend nursing school full time. I have not been able in the last three years afford to pay for everyday basic needs but I hold on knowing that this situation will not last forever. I have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for last three years at a local catholic college in nursing. I only having two more semesters before graduation (May 2010). I have an 1998 Ford Escort with 198,000,00 miles which has been jerking, to come find out the engine is going out. I can not afford to get this car fix because I do not have to money to do so. If you know of any sources that I can utilize to have a car donated to me or given. Would you please e-mail myself with the information. It would be greatly appreciated because I can not allow this obstacle to hold me back from the future. Thank you!!!

Hi Oprah, I was looking around on the website for agencies or company’s that donate cars to the disabled. I am 42 years old with a mental disability. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and on medication. I have a 8 year old daughter who has gone through hell and back with me because we have little income. We have been homeless off and since 2000. We gotten a few apartments but because of my depression I cam’t hold on to a job or stay situated in an aprtment . I am always unhappy because I think life dealt me the short end of the rope. Sometimes I wish I was dead because I can’t give my child everything she needs. We are in need of a car, to take her to places she wants to go and to my doctor’s appointments. We have been moving around to place to place on foot and public transportation. Sometimes I feel people laugh at me and my daughter because we are struggling and poor. I only receive 650.00 a month disability and a little bit of child support but that is not enough to buy a car. I drink beer to forget about my problems and I think my daughter is ashamed of me because we have nothing. I am moving into an apartment that is far out from stores to far to walk, and I need a car. Public transportation goes there but people tell me It is a bad area and you don’t want to catch the bus at night. So if my child gets sick or we need an emergency I would have to go out at night in a bad area to catch the bus not knowing what to expect. We were blessed to get and apartment even though it is not a good area but me and my daughter need transportation to get around. Please help us Oprah. You could be the angel that the lord is sending our way to bless us God Bless You even if you don’t read our letter. But we could sure use some transportation. I would settle for whatever we can do. You have a blessed day Oprah. With love from Jennifer and my daughter Jordan.

    DEAR OPRAH,
I STARTED THIS WHOLE EXPLOSION OF INDIAN HAIR IN LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA BACK IN THE 90′S. I HIRED, MENTORED AND TRUSTED A YOUNG GIRL IN 2003 TO RUN MY BUSINESS WHILE I PURSUED THE OPPORTUNITY TO OPEN ANOTHER STORE. YES BUSINESS WAS GOOD AND RAPIDLY GROWING. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT SHE RIPPED ME OFF SO BAD TO THE POINT THAT I LOST EVERYTHING, MY CAR,MY RESIDENCE, CLIENTS, AND NOW FINALLY MY BUSINESS. I LOST ALL MY FURNITURE AND SOLD PERSONAL VALUBLES IN AN EFFORT TO BUY HAIR TO KEEP THE BUSINESS GOING. WELL, IT FINALLY CAME TO AN END. THE LOCAL POLCE AND DETECTIVES REALLY COULD NOT HELP ME. SHE COMMITTED BANK FRAUD, NUMEROUS COUNTS OF ID THIEFT ON ME AND THE BUSINESS NAME. HAD MY STORE BUGLARIZED 3 TIMES. BROKE OUT MY WINDOWS, INTERCEPTED MY CUSTOMERS OUTSIDE ON THE SIDEWALK BEFORE THEY COULD REACH MY STORE TO SELL HAIR TO THEM FROM HER CAR AND THREATENED MY LIFE. THIS WENT ON FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. IT COMPLETELY CHANGED MY LIFE NOT TO MENTION THE MENTAL TORTURE I WENT THRU WATCHING HER EVERYDAY WALK UP AND DOWN TH STREET WAITING FOR MY CLINTS TO SHOW UP. MY 16 YR OLD SON AND I HAD TO MOVE IN WITH MY MOTHER 83, AND I AM GREATFUL SHE WELCOMED US. I HAVE SINCE BECOME HER CARETAKER, BUT NOW I HAVE NOTHING TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE HOUSEHOLD. I CAN’T HELP HER THE WAY I USE TO FINANCIALLY. WE LIVE IN A SPANISH STUCCO HOUSE. IT HAS POTENTIAL BUT IT IS VERY OLD AND NEEDS ALOT OF WORK. I AM TRULY DEVASTATED BY ALL THAT HAS HAPPENED. MY MOTHER SUGGESTED I WRITE YOU AND TELL YOU MY STORY. “IT MIGHT MAKE A GREAT SHOW IDEA” SHE SAYS. I ADMIT I HAVE A NEED FOR MY STORY TO BE HEARD. I NEED THE TRUTH TO BE TOLD AND I BELEIVE I WILL BE ABLE TO GET MY CLINTS BACK AGAIN AND I CAN START MY BUSINESS AGAIN AND EARN THE MONEY WE NEED TO REPLACE OUR LOSSES AND DO SOME HOME IMPROVEMENT FOR MY MOM.

Hi Oprah, Like a lot of people I am very much in need for a car, with my income I can not afford to make payments, social security does not go very far. I really would love a Van or SUV so I can haul my gran kids around and family dog. I did have a pretty nice SUV up until last year, I let my son borrow it and he had it for several months in LA, CA and unfortunately he unintentionally let it get towed away and the City of Los Angeles sold it, not only was it parked in a permit area, but he had tons of citations on it. With no funds I could not afford to retrieve my car, it has been towed for about two months before he had the nerve to tell me. I learned a very hard lesson, do not loan your only vehicle to your kids. Oprah your are an amazing lady, I really love what you do for people.

hi oprah, my name is julie. we live in louisiana-east carroll parish, a place called lake providence. this place is the worst parish in the state of louisiana, as far as jobs and good schools. my brother is very much in need of a car. it does not have to be a new one, just something that will get him back and forth to pay his bills and visit our mothers burial site. he is unemployed, but has a wife and 2 sons who are handicapped. they live off of ssi checks which are not much. they also receive food stamps to help them out. i try to help them as much as i can. but we to have a hard time, but have more than they do. my brother has tried to get help, but is turned down each time he files for disability. he too is not healthy. it would answer my prayers if he could receive any kind of help. i have read how you help people in need and it would be so nice if my brother could be one of those people. so please if you can, please help him. i thank you so much for reading this. yours truly julie

Hi Oprah, I am Tameka Jameson. Ive just turned 20 yrs old on August 11 and since ive been old enough to drive a motor vehicle- my passion for cars began. I attend the University of Miami on a full Track and Field scholarship. Although the first couple of lines of this letter may seem all handy dandy, heres where my lifes gets split in half- I have a twin sister. She also attends the University of Miami on a full Track and Field scholarship. I love her to death, but we both can agree that its not always fun having to split or share things of our own likings. My mom is a single parent of 3 children. My sister and I (20yrs old) and my little brother Lovance (8yrs old). My mother makes below to average income financially for the amount of children she has to raise, although my sister and I resided in miami for the past 2 yrs things still get costly for my mom. My father lives 30mins away from me. He has a stable household with a wonderful girlfriend and their child- my little brother Vincent (7yrsold). My dads family Bar-B-Q shack burned to the ground about 2 yrs ago and since then he hasnt been able to consistently provide for us like he would like to. He had to sell his rims just to buy my sister and I a car that could get us from point A to point B for a while. We agreed to pay insurance on the car since my dad went through the hassel fixinf nicks and nacks on the car and thigns that needed major repair. We are very greatful for what we have but I wish there were other options for my parents and my sibilings and myself. Ive longed for a fancy car I could feel good in and a sport around- that proves my family is stable and I fit in with every other luxury car around miami’s campus. but that just isnt the case. if there is anything you can do to help feel free to email me. thanks oprah, i appreciate you.

“I feel so very all alone like I’ve been left for dead on a deserted Island” I need a rescue crew to find me and save me! Where do I begin? How did I get here? I got divorced and now my bills are more than my pay check every month. I have no way to get ahead to afford a vehicle payment. I borrow my mother’s car to go back and fourth to work on leaving her without a vehicle everyday. She really needs to have a way to go everyday. She has to call me at work to pick her up if something goes wrong with my son. This puts me in a situation where I must leave work to give her the car. I also do not have any credit due to the divorce and getting behind on payments. I can’t even purchase a car or have anyone sign with me. My father fell and this caused a blood clot in his brain. He could no longer work for a while causing my parents to fall into financial ruin. They can barely pay their bills and any extra money I can spare goes to them. I’m in desparate need of a vehicle because my mother’s car broke down yesterday. I found out that it will cost 1000.00 to fix it. I will not be able to ever get that much extra money to have it fixed due to my financial situation. I borrowed a truck today but want be able to borrow it long. I’m basically in a desparate situation and am begging for help getting a vehicle to save my job. If I do not get one soon I want be able to go to work.

    Seeking help

Hi Oprah, my name is Sharon. I have never asked for help like this before. I am 51 year old divorced woman with 3 children. One is 27 year old girl named Sam with 2 boys of her own. I have two children still at home with me. One is a junior in high school(Zack) and the other one is in college through financial aide(Nick). I need a car bad. I was trying to get my car fixed and it caught on fire. My older sister which lives next door has been taking me to work for the last month and a half. Which this is getting hard on her. I can not afford payments on a car. I have worked my whold life. Done things for myself. I have my own garden to help with food here, cause boys sure do eat alot. I have alot of bills, which is nobody’s fault but my own. I live paycheck to paycheck. I can never get ahead. I live in Indiana, which you know winters are bad. I live in the country. Sometimes it is really hard keeping things together. But for some reason I don’t seem to get depressed. I keep telling the boys things will get better and I believe they will. My sister next door is on disability, she bought our grandparents house. I bought my our parents house. The house is not in the best of shape, but we get by. This is a good invironment to raise my children. I don’t ask for much try to do things for myself. But I realy need a car. My sister has to take me to work and my son to college. I love my job and do not want to lose it, but I do not know how much longer my sister can do this for us. If nothing comes of this it was good to get it off of my chest.
    Thank you
    sharon

Hi Mrs Oprah my name is Jozie and I live in Utah now. I moved here because i thought it was the best place to raise my children. I was working for a company for almost 11 years years now.I was promised to get transfered when i get to Utah but instead they blow me off. I had Nissan Pathfinder which was perfect for me and my two beautiful girls and i lost it because i couldnt afford it anymore. We got kicked out of our apartment because i couldnt make any payment. My boyfriend has a job now but just enough for us to get by. But we still cant afford to buy a car. I cant get a job right now because i just had a baby and i dont have a car to go anywhere. My kids and I stay home a lot because of not having a vehicle. I didnt think i was going to loose my job after being there for so long. Eventhough i have been looking for a job no one would want to hire me the fact that i dont have any vehicle at all.
All my family and friends are in California. I would love to visit them especiallly one of my friend for 10 years is dying from pancreatic cancer. She just found out couple days ago that she has 6 to 12 months to live. Its really sad for me she was like a mother to me. She treated me like her own daughter. Mrs Oprah as much as i would love to see her i have no way of getting to California. No car and no income coming in it’s just makes it hard for me and my kids.
Sometimes i just ask myself of what im doing wrong. I pray to God that i will hope and find a way to see her before she pass away or i can never forgive myself. I want to make a better living for me and my kids but it’s hard to do that now when i cant find a job.
I heard so much about your show and i thought its unreal but when i start watching your show it amaze me how you can helo so much people in need. You are so good to people and your like heaven sent. God Bless you Mrs oprah

Hi oprah, how are you? I love seeing your shows every day and week. I am 18 years old and just started college at CSUB. I will be studying to become a social worker because I love to help people with any problems whether personal, social, or family. I have recently come into a problem and am in need of a vehicle to get me to college and back. I have been using my moms truck but with our different time schedules its been tough to switch back and forth, i know my mom is doing the best she can to help me and i dont want to continue adding stress on her by asking for a car. I have asked my dad(-not my biological father but he raised me since i was a baby-) if i could use one of his vehicles but he doesn’t help me and tells me that he will find me another car, and he has tried but all the vehicles he finds have major problems and will breakdown the first day i use it. I understand that i am not his biological son and he is not legally resposible for me but all i want a car for is to go to college and make something of my self. I was born in mexico city but my mother wanted better for me and my brother so she sacrificed her self for me and my brother by marrying someone she didnt love and who was 20 years older than her. After ten years of marriage. they divorced and she was left raising me and my brother by herself with no money. my dad had kicked her out on the street with nothing. she, my brother and i lived with a friend of hers for a couple months and then she saved enough to rent a place.she used to be a manager of a restaurant and worked 14 to18 hours a day just so that we could have a decent life. she is currently working part time(3 and a half) for a highschool with special needs and her new husband was laid off a year ago and is now working for a navy base, but money is still short. what has been helping us get by are my stepdads parents. as the days pass by i feel more and more wanting to drop out of school so i dont cause any more stress on my mom by using her vehicle since she has been arriving late for work because i use her truck for school. I really dont know what else i can do, i am at my final options. any advice from you would be a great help.

I am writing this email in behalf my sister, Darlene Vaughan who lives in New Plymouth, Idaho. First, I have praying for an opportunity to find a way to bless my sister with a new car. I hope you may be able help. She and her husband are both on social security so money is tight and her husband is not always able to fix her car. This last summer her air conditioner and other repairs on her car were needed, but it was never done. She is involved in her church alot and tries to visit her dad who is 84 yrs old and not well in Boise, Idaho. She has always wanted A Nissan Pathfinder – The name Pathfinder reminds her of the parth to Jesus Christ. She has a car which old and not dependable. I would like her visit dad more and never worry about a car for the rest of life. She has always put others first. She is a great sister and rarely gets any thing new. My prayer is that she will be blessed with a new car. May God Bless You and thank you. Judy

I would be so happy to have a little silver put put!
I paid a lot of money to help my Pakistani Husband to come to America. He came here and didn’t want to pay a penny to get me out of debt. I ended up losing the car I co-sign for him and my car because I couldn’t keep the payments. After the divorce, my ex husband left the country and left me with his debt and I ended up filing bankrupty. I have no car and no car dealership will not deal with me. Help me and my 11 year old son, because we seriously need a ride! Thanks for your support and consideration in advance.

It is too far to walk to work and school.

    Dear Oprah,

I want the American dream, for my daughter Kayla. I have made my fair share of mistakes in my life and I finally I got it right. Today, I have a 17 year old daughter who is graduating from High School soon and wants to go to college. I cannot help her. I am almost 9 months pregnant, am in poor health and on Medicaid. I have no home of my own and I am the product of bad choices for many years. I turned my life around but I want my daughter to have a chance to do a better job of her life than I did with mine. If it weren’t for my Mom who never gave up on me, I wouldn’t be writing you today. Please consider some kind of help for Kayla and Thank You for listening to me. Sincerely Sherry Clark

Hey, I just wanted to share my story. I am a 31 year old single mother of 2 boys ages 10 and 2. I have been unemployed since Feb 09. I have searched for employment and nothing. I had to let all my bills go and I am so far behind but my biggest struggle was to keep a roof over their heads. I got a low income apartment now and doing what I can to make ends meat. Still can’t find employment but have been able to do odd and ends stuff to get the basics. We are really in need of a realiable vehicle, I currently have a 92 nissian sentra that is on its last leg, it has over 300,000 miles and needs a new transmission. I can’t afford to have it fixed and can’t go get another one. My credit is now shot from not being able to pay my bills. I would liketo ask if you would be able to donate a reliable vehicle for myself and my kids. With reliable transportation I can look for employment in other locations. I really need this, I am used to being able to take care of myself and my kids and not having a relaible vehicle and a job I am failing as a mother. I can’t believe times have got this hard for us all. If you can’t help with a vehicle, it ok! If you have some work I can do from home or any info on work at home jobs that would help also. If you have any information on grants on starting your own business or any helpful information that might help me get on my feet and provide for my family again, I am open to any suggestions and helpful info and above all I accept ALL PRAYERS!!GOD BLESS!!!

Hi Oprah. I have struggled the past two years and have suffered a job loss after having to pay so much on my own when my soon-to-be ex-husband wasn’t working and hardly looking for a job. I had to pay child care, rent, utilities, car note, car insurance, food, gas and other necessities all on my own which was totally impossible. This struggle has caused me and my family to be evicted and later have my car repossessed. Now I’m trying to find a way to go back to work without a car and this seems almost impossible. I feel stuck in a situation with no way out. Can you help!?

I have a life threatening disease (HIV) bad lungs, kidney problems, very little use of my right hand. By the time I have to pay co payments to the doctor, buy food and household products and my rent, lights gas water and sewer and phone. I have very little left. I walk to the grocery store for food and have to walk back six blocks up steep hills with bags of grocery and have to stop every block to breathe. I also watch my seven year old nephew who walks with me and tell me when he grows up he is going to buy a car and come take me to the store I am in desperate need for a car so I can maintain my life. It is only with gods help that I am still alive and I thank him every day for giving me the strength to survive. I know you hear so many people with problems all the time. I am not looking for a hand out but I seriously could use a helping hand. I hope you can find it in your heart to help me. If not I will understand.

    01/21/2010 at 9:53 pm

    Hello Oprah,

My name is Dan Cooper and I am 25 years old. I come from a 7 child family so having my very own car has never been an option for me. Recently, my father lost everything we own including our house in a bankruptcy lawsuit. Times have been extremely tough and we struggle daily to put food on our table. I have been forced to quit college and work two jobs just so I can afford rent with my other brother who takes me to and from work everyday. And with his busy schedule as an attorney it has become a serious inconvenience. If I had my own car I would be able to enroll in school and still keep my two jobs. Although my family has lost everything, I remain optimistic that good things will happen, and this opportunity would mean so much to me and my family. I continue to help support my family but it is tough without a reliable means of transportation. Please help me Oprah, i see what wonderful things you do, which is why I am trying to become a paramedic so that I too can help others.

    Hi Oprah

Well I will start off by saying I thank God for using you to
to help so many people get things they would never be able
    to get on their own.

My story is that I am getting ready to retire and this is probably the
only way of getting a car that will have to last me for the rest of my life. No the fortunate one that will retire with lots of money.

Only give this if God gives you the heart to do this so I guess I will
pray that I am one of the chosen ones to get a new car.

Thanks for the opportunity to possibley get one.

  • Amber Nicholson

    03/08/2010 at 10:06 pm

    Hi Oprah,

My name is Amber Nicholson. This is my story. I am a 26 year old mother of 5 children. I have no car and it is difficult for me to make it to my childrens doctors appointments with no transportation. My oldest son is Jordan, he is 7, he is in school and whenever he misses the bus, i have no way to take him to school. If he gets sick at school I have no transportation to take to pick him up from school. My next child is Triston. He is 4. He has been diagnosed as being bi-polar as well as having ADHD. He needs to be seen monthly to recieve his medication and I often have to reschedule his appointments because I have no transportation and the bus system does not run to where his doctor is located. It is very hard for Triston to function without his medication and sometimes he lapses from taking his medication because i have missed his appointment because of transportation issues. My third child is Destinee, she is 3. Where i live there is nothing for my children to do and destinee loves to be outside. Without transportation i can not take my children to the park like the other children and it makes them very sad. My fourth child is Madison she is another special needs child that i have. Madison was born at 27 weeks and weighed 1 pound and 12 ounces. She has 7 different doctors that she sees monthly and it would help tremendously to have transportation to do so. After I had Madison I had the Niverna ring put in place, but that did not stop me from concieving once again with my fifth child Hayden. Hayden was also born preemie and has failed his hearing test twice. I am going to have to have the test retaken to see if he passes this time. The only income that I have is Madisons SSI check this is barely enough to pay my rent and I have no money left over to set aside to buy a car. I have lost two homes in the past and 2 cars as well. I was buying a car from a person who called theirself my “friend” and when I was not able to make the payment as we agreed she took the car back. I really want to get a car to accomadate my childrens needs and get them to their doctor appointments. I have currently lived in my apartment for 2 years. I would like to work but with no transportation and with having special needs children SSI has told me that i can not work due to Madisons’ condition. I would greatly appreciate your consideration for helping me. Thank you Sincerely Amber Nicholson, 678-651-4391. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

    Hi Oprah,

I am a single parent and a full-time student. I have been striving to make a better live for my sons and myself for about three years now. I graduated from the junior college in the spring with m;y family watching me and I now travel over three hours away to get to the college I need to learn to be a counselor. I hope some day to help other people the way that I was helped when things looked so dark and gloomy. The problem is my car died and I now am relying on my families cars to get to school. I am hoping that you might be able to help me because my sons and I live on such a tight income because I am disabled. I was recently diagnosed with MS and I know if I am going to help people it will be through listening and talking to them because I am losing mobility. Thank you so much for caring about people and helping them.
