I have an old put together computer, It's running Windows XP.I want to reinstall Windows Xp. So is the best way to do that is download WindowsXp first and then take out the old Windows XP. I don't care about files,I am giving it to my daughter. Have not used it in a long time. But it still works. Oh, and will I have to buy memory?
Thanks.

Yes sometimes reinstalling XP will delete certain fodlers and files as they were used for temp install files.

That's why my step 1 was back up EVERYTHING!

Sorry you lost some files.

This article was very helpful for future xp reloads. My problem is that I reloaded XP after a new mother board swap. I reloaded it on the same hard drive that it was on before. I did not reformat it. I now cannot find some of my old files such as my pictures. I can find some items so I know that the data did not get wiped out. When I search I get nothing even when checking in hidden files and folders. Where could they be hiding?
