Sergio Mora defeats Peter Manfredo Jr again
Contender: Season One champion Sergio Mora and Contender: Season One finalist Peter Manfredo Jr picked up where they left off in their championship contest back in May, fighting to an exciting eight-round split decision Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Mora was cut over the left eye in round one and outworked significantly in the punch stats, but did enough to win 77-75 on two cards.
Manfredo was ahead 77-75 on the third card. Fightnews scored it 76-76.
In a Contender: Season One rematch, super middleweight Jesse Brinkley took a controversial five round decision over Anthony Bonsante.
Bonsante, who was stopped by Brinkley in their previous “Contender” fight, outworked Brinkley for most this encounter and the scores of 49-46, 48-47, 48-47 for Brinkley brought boos from the large crowd of approximately 15,000.
Fightnews scored it 49-46 for Bonsante, who later came out of the dressing room and did a “victory lap” amongst the fans.

I saw Peter lose clearly with Gomez and Mora the first time they met…. and then won closely to Gomez and lose closely to Mora in the rematchs…. We can read the opinions of analyst of boxing, and it’s unanimous that Mora won the second fight 77-75….

As for Gab’s point about Manfredo and Gomez, I agree — the only time I saw Manfredo “step it up” was for his rematch with Gomez — he seemed focused. Still, Gomez gave him a battle for his life, and I’d say Gomez only lost that fight by a few punches. Gomez is the “People’s Choice” of the Contender for the very fact that he has heart and people can see that in him, while others don’t see that quality in Manfredo. I think Manfredo LOVES boxing, but he doesn’t have a hard punch or anything in his punching reportoire that defines him. Sergio, for example, can move “like a snake.” Sergio constantly shifts and changes styles, and his combinations are lightning and EFFECTIVE! So there you have it.

Hey everyone just wanted to say that im no boxin judge but i definately thought manfredo won the rematch hands down. ive been a big fan of his ever since the first series of the contender and good luck to him in the future – he deserves it! and as for mora vs gomez…well lets just say gomez wouldnt go down without a fight and he could win it (so long as they wernt fightin in LA) but i have to say sergios the better fighter.

I was wid peter and jesse yesterday and i asked them about the fight wid mora and gomez and they both thought mora would win Gomez has less stronger punches than mora.
Gomez had a heart yeh and i love him to bits everyone does but his punches need to be harder and more reliable to him.

Todd thanks a lot for the books ive already started reading them and finished 2 already I though they were going to be really thick but there a moderate size so I was surprised by that but thank you very much. As for peter and Sergio there both really good fighters and they both have different positives and negatives Sergio at the beginning I thought he was a cocky bastard but when he started talking about diff strategies and fighting smart I seen that he was just trying to mess wit the boxers heads and most of the times he did which really impressed me as for peter I was never really impressed by him getting beat by Alfonso and then coming back and complaining he wasn’t ready if you lose you lose a warrior should always be ready to go to war and peter never came out big in any of his fights I haven’t seen the rematch but I dunno. Ill have to see to give my opinion about that 2. and I think Alonso and Sergio would be a pretty good match.

I’m glad to hear the Contender is having women — thanks for that info Char — I watched Muhammad Ali’s daughter fight a few months ago and she is an incredible boxer (and really hot too!). I suppose that the winner of the Contender II will fight Sergio, assuming he’s still holding the belt.
I think we might see a Mora-Manfredo III because of the controversial decision for Mora. I’ll say this: If Manfredo loses the next fight, whatever the circumstance, we won’t be seeing him any more, at least for Contender bouts. While I liked watching Mora/Manfredo/Jesse/Gomez, I’d like to see some of the other boxers on the show — Joey Gilbert, Bonsanti, Ishe Smith, and that little guy who got the chicken pox who later fought on the first reunion and kicked some ass. peace

I watched the fight again and it proved to me that Mora’s cut early on GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT MANFREDO IS WINNING. BUT, IT WAS CLOSER THAN MANFREDO FANS WANT TO BELIEVE. Manfredo still hasn’t earned my respect…he took a beating by Gomez in the first fight and I’m sorry, but that’s inexusable for A GUY RANKED THIRD IN THE WORLD…c’mon, think about it. And this guy Mora only had a handful of professional fights — and most of the guys he beat were bums with losing records. So, Manfredo has yet to PROVE HIMSELF.
I can’t believe how people are so ignorant to what I’m saying here. What I’d like to hear is from Manfredo fans at least admit what I’m saying.

Just watched Against the Ropes with Meg Ryan and found that its all about Karen from the Contender? Got me thinking as to what the hell happened to Mora? Wasnt the whole idea of the show so he could have a shot at the title? As he hasnt had a fight since winning a million bucks, I guess he has quite boxing. Does anyone know? Makes me think that the whole show was a con like most other reality shows. I had my suspicions watching the fights as they seemed to be all staged for maximum drama.
