Sergio Mora defeats Peter Manfredo Jr again
Contender: Season One champion Sergio Mora and Contender: Season One finalist Peter Manfredo Jr picked up where they left off in their championship contest back in May, fighting to an exciting eight-round split decision Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Mora was cut over the left eye in round one and outworked significantly in the punch stats, but did enough to win 77-75 on two cards.
Manfredo was ahead 77-75 on the third card. Fightnews scored it 76-76.
In a Contender: Season One rematch, super middleweight Jesse Brinkley took a controversial five round decision over Anthony Bonsante.
Bonsante, who was stopped by Brinkley in their previous “Contender” fight, outworked Brinkley for most this encounter and the scores of 49-46, 48-47, 48-47 for Brinkley brought boos from the large crowd of approximately 15,000.
Fightnews scored it 49-46 for Bonsante, who later came out of the dressing room and did a “victory lap” amongst the fans.

hiya, i think the decision with the rematch of peter manfredo jr and sergio mora, was so unfair peter manfredo jr won that fight hands down and i think that the decision was total faulse the judges just wanted mora to win and stay as the contenaned, the title should be peter manfredo jr’s and not sergio mora. sergio will no that he didnt win fairly and peter will always be the true winner, no matter wat the judges say. he was the better fight, and always will be. well done peter manfredo jr your a great fighter. love hayleighXxX
the decision was the biggest load of bull#### ive have ever known, sergio it still going on like he won but he didnt, there was only one winner and that was peter, the guy is a hero, he worked so had to completely turn it around after the first fight and to be robbed like that is criminal, he is a true hero and have the upmost respect for him, sergio is the poor loser, he should admit peter won and stop the excuses. he`s a disgrace to keep walking around with the belt. peter is a true hero!

I felt that the whole fight night was a set-up starting with the second fight between Anthony and Jesse, and finishing with Peter and Sergio. Both Anthony and Peter were robbed. I watch both fights over for a second time just to verify what I already witnessed, they both won and got the short end of a California bad judge/refree tag team.

peter has inproved. Since he lost to ALFONSO. Everyone forgets that he lost to a guy two weight classes below him! Maybe its just time to admit that he is just not the great fighter we all thought. He did redeem himself, not in a convincing fashion.He barely beat alfonso.
As far as sergio. It was a boxing match, That does not mean if get a cut your getting beat, like most assume! Sergio clearly out boxed his opponent even as he had to take more of a defensive roll to protect his cut. He is that much better.Faster and skilled. They both have heart. Like most that know the sport, I believe that if they faught 10 times sergio more would win all ten.
Peter did not win.
Peter, we can give him the more improved fighter since their last encounter.
Sergio beat Peter the first time for 7 entire rounds. This time Sergio only beat him for about 5 or 6 rounds.
Thus Peter improved but he did not win.
I addition I would like to mention that, the media portrayed manfredo as the best boxer there. As well as the show from day one. for those that think of set up theory! let you guys figure that one on your own!
Let’s face it: Manfredo’s and Mora’s performance was mediocre at best. What’s surprising to me at this juncture is that neither of them have revealed a punch in their arsonery with a “sting.” While no one questions Mora’s fast hands, even the punches he landed had much of an effect. Mora’s body language while punching gives the appearance he’s throwing piercing punches as he thrusts his body when imparting body shots. As for who actually won, I would say that Manfredo beat himself both time, especially in the first fight when it was apparent he was exhausted early on, possibly overtrained or not enough. Mora loves the attention he’s getting these days and who woundn’t? It borders narcissistic, however, considering the number of times the live camera at the Caesar’s Palace bout caught him glancing upward to view “himself” on the big screen while in his corner and in the end when the winner was announced inside. Manfredo’s performance went from bad to respectable the second fight, but he affirmed my opinion early on that he lacks the versatility, speed, and sheer punching power of a great boxer. In fairness, he stuffed Joey Gilbert, despire the headbutt, and later Alfonso Gomez. While I didn’t get to see Manfredo before The Contender, it’s obvious he was much more effective a fighter than now, given his then high ranking. You’re as good as your last fight, and what this last fight revealed was that both Manfredo and Mora will, eventually, disappear into Reality TV oblivion. In the end, let us not forget they’re stand-up athletes with heart and determination and gave us all a peek into the lives of boxers, which has helped put a human face on the sport of boxing. Keep on punching gentleman!
Even though i am a big fan of sergio’s I definetly think that Manfredo that night was the true winner of the rematch against Mora. Mora has turned big headed. Manfredo has improved a hell of a lot, all the credit should go to Manfredo because to me and a lot of people he is the TRUE CONTENDER.

Every time he bids a home, he goes on to claim, somebody else comes along with a higher one. S-u-r-e. Sergio Mora is falling into the same bling-bling trap that infects most boxers who get their hands on the greenbacks. Mora has finally revealed his true colors, making some truly uncalled-for remarks immediately following the rematch about how Manfredo should “stop being a sore loser” and assured his fans that the cut above his eye was caused by a headbutt, as if he would be less of a man if it was Manfredo’s punch that caused it. On his website, he also mentions how he had the flu the week before the fight…to substantiate to his fans why he didn’t knock out Manfredo, as he promised? Well, he was far from doing that. It’s just a matter of time folks before “The Snake” is piss broke, the “Snake Pit” disappears, and the only image he has of himself will be the one in the Contender videotape set, of which he surely has plenty of copies. It’s a video of his life past that he’ll be watching for a long time, in the same shabby apartment with that dumb lawyer girlfriend, probably whining about how the commentators rematch night misrepresented him.
manfredo did not dominate any fight versus mora. I thought people were here to talk about boxing! I guess as long as mora keeps defeating manfredo, he will continue making money and spend it as he wishes. whether it was a punch or a headbutt it doesnt matter cause manfredo didnt capitalize on it! what does that show about the way people think he destroyed mora? if you look at the round by round description at manfredos website, mora should of been carried out on a stretcher. Manfredo won the rematch fight, that is clearly evident by the Leader card and the announcer with many years of experience saying that Manfredo was in alot more control and Mora was not. Now you can judge it like they did that night but that will only be your opinion. If you weigh the facts Peter won and should be the Champ. I have seen Peter fight before the Contender and watched him win the NABO title. He will be back and this time maybe Mora won’t be so lucky and we can shut down all you Mora supporters.

Sergio has not bought the house for his mother because he wants to buy her a huge house. Sergio moved out and now lives next door to his family in a small apartment. Sergio is living with one of his older brothers and Sergio sleeps on the couch. I dont see no bling bling action there.

Herb – If you look at the rematch scorecards, by no stretch of the imagination would I call Mora’s win an “ass kicking” as you do. He won soundly, agreed. If you read my earlier remarks, I referred to Mora’s (and Manfredo’s) limited boxing ability. If you look at both fights, but particularly the rematch, it was a pillow fight – the punches had little impact…and as far as Mora scoring a knockout in any upcoming bout, I consider it almost impossible. I’ll admit that Mora would beat Manfredo, no matter how many times they fight, but the round-by-round action will always be the same. To be honest, I’m really not interested in Manfredo – I’d love to see Bonsanti vs. Mora or Gonzalez vs. Mora. Bonsanti is a wild fighter, but his punch has an authentic sting and, in my mind, he’s the hungriest of the Contender fighters. He just needs to do more boxing and less wrestling in there and he’ll be fine! Gonzalez is the rightful next challenger for Mora. To all you Contender fans out there, What do you think about Joey Gilbert being selected by Sly Stallone to be spokesperson for Stallone’s new nutrition line, Insone? Gilbert may be fighting in November in England, last I read. He gave Manfredo a hell of a fight and if it wasn’t for that unintentional headbutt that caused the deep cut above his eye, Gilbert may have pulled that one out. wow todd let me teach you something! as far as boxing the judges du their job! which is judge THATS IT ! the announcers anounce thats their only job. their opinion and how they write their cards is unofficial. that is why their card are wrong lots of times. I think for anouncers to read their totals is wrong cause people like you dont listen even though they tell you time and after time that it is UNOFFICIAL! Herb, I agree and disagree with your point about the judges being the only judge that counts. Let’s face it, people in charge don’t always do the right thing or make the right decisions. I don’t have to tell you that President Bush’s decision to go to war was despicably wrong – 2 years later and over 2000 US soldiers dead and suicide bombers still going strong. Leaders, judges, whoever, make wrong decisions occasionally. Sure, less so than “we” do. Then again, maybe not. Don’t be blind to that just because your man won. Did you see the Bonsanti-Brinkley II?? The crowd booed and Stallone, Ishe Smith, and even Mark Brunette openly thought Bonsanti had won, including myself and friends who don’t like Bonsanti. Mora had one exceptional round that solidified his lead and perhaps added momentum in his favor for the rounds that followed, but Manfredo was never “out of the fight.” Charlotte says she was at the fight: Which section were you sitting in Charlotte? I have my money on Bonsanti in a Bonsanti-Mora bout — he’s got killer instincts and an intensity to train like an animal. I say give the guy a shot at the Contender belt – he’s got heart and a love for boxing that is inspiring! after reading all these comments i still dont get how people can say mora won the fight! i am a manfredo fan and can say he was easily defeated in the contender final but the rematch clearly showed mora couldnt deal with the improved manfredo! forever chopping and changing to south paw but manfredo kept him at bay! mora won only 2-3 of the rounds and manfredo should be the champ!

It seems like most people who say Manfredo won get WAY to damn overdramatic and go overboard…. claiming that boxing has lost all respect, “the contender could have had it all… but”. Give me a break!!
