Stevia is not an artificial sweetener. It comes from the Stevia plant. Most artificial sweeteners give me a sore throat and headache. I have never had any problems with Stevia.

Rob, No conspiracy here.

'95, Sucralose was a laxative for for me as well. I remember the nights that I woke up in a deep sleep at 3AM-4AM with horrible cramps. Killed my night sleep. And many daytime issues. The doctor couldn't help me.

In addition to the laxative problem, Sucralose acted as a stimulate. After eating something with it in it, my heart would race. As a result, my sleep was affected.

conspiracy theory, not here. But I can say it is the next best thing to a laxative for me. Times I've had drinks without realizing it's got splenda. I figure it out about 15 minutes later when my stomach's cramping and I and running for a bathroom. I check the bottle and yup, splenda. So that's my 2 cents on why I won't use it, lucky are the rest of you who can manage it.

Man what a bunch of conspiracy theorist sheep. No relevant facts or scientifically vetted studies referred to in this article. Just a bunch of baseless accusations and inferences all backed up by an obvious distrust of regulatory organizations. Here we have the nature nuts pandering their wares, the hypochondriacs who feel tingling and metallic flavor which they attribute to the harm that it is causing their bodies, and 1 pseudo-web celebrity that spurns them on by stirring the pot occasionally. If you don't like the product or experience something negative that you attribute to it then don't buy it! Period. I am tired of having the web taken over by the fringe elements of society who, because of their collective handicaps, have nothing better to do than troll and post on blogs that should more realistically be categorized under the heading of humor/general misinformation.

Let me give my opinion of what "natural" has to do with it.
You are right, Poison Ivy, Cyanide, and Hemlock are all natural, poisonous and not safe. The difference is natural poisons affect you soon after you come into contact with them. Many chemicals were deemed safe at first and it took decades to see the damaging affects they had on the human body. I hope sucralose won't be added to that list.
Natural poisons are proven poisonous and unsafe right up front. Humans create chemicals and say they are safe. Decades later they are proven harmful and to me that's not natural.

A few years ago I wanted to loose some weight and because I have a sweet tooth didn't want to give up sugar. Splenda commercials stated it taste like sugar because it was made from sugar so I gave it a try. I started using it as a sweetener in my coffee, tea and nothing else. After a short time I stated getting sore's on my legs that resembled large mosquito bites that itched and never went away. The problem with this is it was in the middle of winter and I live in Canada and it was minus 30 outside. After some time I became concerned and thought of seeing a doctor. I don't like going to doctors so I decided to look over my life and see what I had changed recently that might be causing this. My conclusion was Splenda was the only thing different. I stopped using it and within a short time the sores went away and I haven't had the problem since.
Now I'm no expert but have come to the conclusion that any foods molecularly or chemically altered are plobably not good for us. We need to listen to our own bodies. I believe some people can use sucralose and some can't just like I can eat peanuts while they can kill others.
On a final note, I believe everyone must take responsibility for their own bodies and stop relying on doctors and others to tell them everything. The saying "you are what you eat" is so true.

I have used Splenda for years, in small amounts, as everything in moderation is a good motto, and I have had no side effects. Most of the symptoms explained above, especially the bad taste that does not go away after brushing, can also be symptoms of dieting.

I expect that many people using sucralose or Splenda are likely to be on a diet for weight loss or other health reasons, as I was when I started using Splenda. Before criticising the product for all your ailments, I recommend that you review your diet first to ensure you are getting all your nutrients in the right quantities first.

If your diet is not a problem and you're still having problems digesting sucralose, don't use it. Lots of people have problems digesting lots of foods, it doesn't mean it's poison. For example, I have problems digesting cucumbers, but I don't call them poison, I just don't eat them. My daughter is allergic to apples but she doesn't call them poison and doesn't request special labelling on packaged food that contain apple products.

Regarding the diabetic who's insulin spiked after using Splenda, it is a well documented fact that some people (not many) do respond to Splenda the same as if they had eaten sugar because it is made with sugar. If you are diabetic and get these symptons, don't use it. You are only reacting as if you had consumed sugar which diabetics should not eat.

Keep in mind that a healthy diet has a minimum of "junk" food so a large amount of sucralose should not be required. If you are consuming large quantities of it I recommend you re-evaluate your diet. You probably have more problems than just too much sucralose.

I agree with DiabeticPatient and George. Apply logic and beware of fear mongers and those like Marcel who pass judgement before they have information. Also, I'd like to point out that honey and maple syrup are also dangerous for diabetics to use..."natural" doesn't necessarily mean safe for many people.

I recommend you use the product in moderation and listen to your own body.

sorry you feel that way...i still believe that anything that has had its molecules chemically altered is not good for our bodies and has high potential to cause cancer down the road...honey is a complete food full of vitamins and minerals, it's antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and of course heals many cuts very quickly not too mention also kills the herpes virus in cold sores!...this is one of mother natures' true sweeteners!...a 1/4 tsp. is all you need!
