Richard Jeni’s Family Confirms Suicide

Richard Jeni’s Family has released a statement on Richard’s personal website which does in fact confirm what the coroner’s office has yet to release. Richard Jeni committed suicide at the age of 49.

As I had written in an earlier article about Richard Jeni’s death, there were several theories being thrown around regarding his death. The family wanted to end all of the speculation and get the truth out.

Richard Jeni suffered from severe clinical depression and bouts of psychotic paranoia. He was just diagnosed with this in 2007. The family did say that his suicide was just as big a shock to his friends and family as it was to everyone else.

Jeni’s family also went on to explain that in no way was his career a source of his depression. He had his most prolific year ever and was satisfied in that aspect of his life. For anyone who has a friend or family member that suffers from depression you know that a depressed person is not just sad or down, they are truly ill.

I believe that Richard Jeni will be remembered in a positive light for all of his accomplishments. If anything positive can be taken away from this tragedy it will be getting the word out on depression and the severity of the disease.

He will be remembered for his quick wit. I really enjoyed his recent stand up steaming pile of me. Being able to hear his recordings will immortalize him and be a place to go after one of those days when you need a good laugh.
