When you're in Boston and want to take in some sightseeing or tourist attractions, I would definitely recommend looking into the CityPass. It saves a ton of time because you don't have to buy tickets to each place that you go and it saves a lot of money, (over 40% right now) versus buying each ticket individually.

I have found "Car Free In Boston" to be a wonderful guide to Boston. It details all public transportation, and tells how to get to all destinations that a tourist would want to reach with very explicit directions. Contains maps and diagrams. Even someone who has lived in Boston for years can find interesting places to go that they haven't heard of. $10, a small paperback.

You can also check out www.groundnet.com for quality shared ride providers. They are usually better and cheaper than taxi cabs.
