World of Warcraft Spyware

Blizzard is looking for more than just your $15/month.

This behavior places the warden client squarely in the category of spyware. What is interesting about this is that it might be the first use of spyware to verify compliance with a EULA. I cannot imagine that such practices will be legal in the future, but right now in terms of law, this is the wild wild west. You can’t blame Blizz for trying, as well as any other company, but this practice will have to stop if we have any hope of privacy. Agree w/ botting or game cheaters or not, this is a much larger issue called ‘privacy’ and Blizz has no right to be opening my excel or PGP programs, for whatever reason.

I think this is scary, and definitely an invasion of privacy. I think Blizzard has crossed the line on this one, I guess the success of World of Warcraft has gone to their head. Great post, lets spread the word to every WOW player out their so that they can choose to give away their privacy or quit World of Warcraft on find a different MMORPG.

    Andrea, haha

hmm… well idk if it’s a big deal, it doesn’t do anything that would be considered spyware really, it just monitors processes in order to find if you are cheating is all, now if it actually slowed down your computer or put files that you don’t want onto the computer then it’d be bad, otherwise eh, who cares.
