I’m Only Called Mother on Mothers Day

By Erin | Apr 25, 2007

I figured I would take the occasion of Mothers Day to pay homage to…myself. I have a four year old kid and so far he hasn’t really grasped the importance of this day for his dear old mom. Sure his daddy will either go buy him a card at the store or make a card with him especially for me. While that is great…I’m looking for a little more.

Sure my family could do something great for me like saying something nice about me and get it on the CNN Mothers Day Tribute or they could get me what I really want, SOME TIME TO MYSELF. Now, I know Mothers Day is supposed to be about spending time with your mother and letting her know how much you love and appreciate her.

If my family really loves and appreciates me they will leave me the hell alone for a few hours so I can have some peace and quiet. That sounds pretty bad but guess what…I don’t care. As you can see from the list of names I usually go by I deserve some “me time”.

I am in no way saying that Mothers work harder than Fathers do. They just work differently. Besides, you get your own day too, you just don’t ask for what you really want…to get the hell away from your family.

This Mothers Day Gift advice goes out not just to my family but to the family’s of all the mothers out there. Believe me, they would never come out and tell you that the best Mothers Day gift you could give her is you not around but it is, it just is.

Please don’t take any of this the wrong way. It’s not that the mothers in your lives don’t like you, they love you. That is why you need to get away from them because they don’t want to have to murder you. It’s easy to avoid, just give them one day out of the year to be by themselves. That’s all we need. One day to recharge our motherly batteries. Give your Mother what she truly wants and truly needs this year for Mothers Day, a day without you.

Happy Mothers Day
