How a New Laser Can Remove Your Tattoo

By Erin | Sep 20, 2007

Kat Von D tattoosWe all know someone (maybe even ourselves) who has a tattoo that they no longer like and they want to know how to remove a tattoo. Well for now, there really isn’t a quick or painless way but here is how to do it.

Dermatologists will tell you that their business is absolutely booming thanks to people who at one time loved their tattoos but now…not so much. Laser tattoo removal is a procedure that is becoming more and more popular with time.

Laser tattoo removal is where a state-of-the-art laser is used to target the pigment in the tattoo. The laser penetrates the skin and hits the pigment, blows it into small pieces and then those pieces are absorbed back into the body through the lymphatic system. Sounds easy right?

laser tattoo removalWell…not really. Each laser tattoo removal session can only last about a minute to avoid permanent damage to the skin. Also it is a lot more painful than getting the original tattoo. It has been described as constant bee stings in the area being worked on and it does stay painful for a few hours after the laser tattoo removal session is completed.

Ok that doesn’t sound so bad right? Well the cost of laser tattoo removal is outrageous and I forgot to mention that dermatologists usually charge by the square inch. So imagine paying well over 2 grand to have the tattoo removed and also having to go back about 10-12 times…no thanks.

There’s Gotta Be An Easy Way To Remove A Tattoo

Ok so maybe not easier or quicker but at least less evasive and definitely less expensive. There are fading systems out there that slowly fade and remove the pigment of a tattoo. An example of this type of fading product would be a product called Wrecking Balm.

Wrecking Balm is a tattoo fading system. It includes a suffusion gel, demo-brasion spray, demomatic and hydravescent creams and a skin matching branding butter which is used to conceal your tattoo while you work on removing it. This method is said to remove tattoos in as little as two months depending on the surface size, depth and ink density.

What Does The Future Of Tattoo Removal Hold?

This tattoo ink is a micro-encapsulated dye and it is designed to be easily removed by a single laser treatment. Once the laser hits the pigment it is immediately dissolved. No more repetitive laser tattoo removal sessions.

I’ve never gotten a tattoo. It’s not because I have anything against them, I just never saw something that I wanted on my body forever. I guess I don’t have to worry about that anymore. I’ll just go get any old thing…after all I can always get my tattoo removed.

Great to hear that alternatives are coming up, but getting a tattoo should be given a great deal of thought and should still be considered as permanent.
